Job Description
Wood Mackenzie are an industry-leading data analytics company that provides analysis and insight on the world’s natural resources with offices all around the globe. The team are working on a next generation, data analysis & visualization platform utilized by our customer to drive billion-dollar decisions.
We are looking for a dynamic, experienced Product Director to lead the strategic direction of our large portfolio of commercially-successful energy market products. This role is an integral part of a high-functioning and innovative team, and requires a unique blend of communication skills, leadership, business and technical savvy to create and execute a big-picture strategy.
About you and how you can excel in this role
You will be a self-starter, energised by a challenge, passionate about bringing great products to market, and love the thrill of creating a new standard for what’s possible. You will have;
- Significant demonstrable Product Management experience at least at Senior or Lead level
- Experience of managing a complex multi-product portfolio
- Advanced stakeholder communication skills, being able to bring them on board with your vision, and being able to break bad news gracefully
- Previous experience in the energy market or B2B information sectors would be helpful, but is not essential
- Experience of frequent, meaningful customer engagements that led to positive commercial outcomes
- A deep understanding of customer and business value and the ability to make smart trade-offs and prioritisation decisions
- Agile, and iterative software product development expertise
- Excellent oral and writing communication skills
- An interest in making a difference to the way we power the planet
Qualifications
You will lead and drive a program of product enhancements, monitoring and owing return on investment, and communicating with a large and varied stakeholder group including senior management on a daily basis. You will also need to keep an eye on the broader corporate picture, as we transform our services, products and platforms, to ensure strategic fit.
You will be responsible for overseeing Product Management, planning and execution throughout the product lifecycle, across a natural resource and energy markets portfolio including;
Knowledge & experience
- Lead teams through the product development cycle and optimize the processes
- Ability to clearly prioritize resource allocation and commercial priorities across portfolio of products
- Keep abreast of changes in your product’s industry
- Best practices for agile product development and ongoing learning and experimenting with those systems
Impact on strategy
- Assess market for strategic opportunities and build relevant cases to address the opportunities
- Optimize team allocations for execution against business strategy
- Own area of business strategy
Stakeholder & client relationships
- Regular contact with target customers to discuss their company direction
- Facilitate and deliver cross company communication about products portfolio
- Manage executive expectations on portfolio delivery
Leadership
- Act as, and be seen as, a respected and trusted strategic leader both to the product team and the wider organisation
- Proactively develop strong ideas and strategic proposals to drive the business forward
- Support product leadership team in defining and communicating roadmaps and product delivery expectations
- Foster team morale and motivation and encourage a culture of innovation focused on adding value
- Proactively nurture talent of senior staff to build high functioning, motivated teams
- Lead recruiting, headcount management, planning, career growth and training
- Develop and maintain an up-to-date knowledge of industry trends, products and platforms in our core technology stacks
- Spread learning and knowledge sharing across the organisation
