POSITION SUMMARY

The ideal candidate will be experienced in handling a wide range of accounting related tasks and will be able to work independently with little or no supervision. This person must be exceedingly well organized, efficient and resourceful. The ability to interact with staff (at all levels) in a fast-paced environment, sometimes under pressure, remaining flexible, proactive, resourceful and efficient, with a high level of professionalism and confidentiality is crucial to this role. The Controller will assist the CFO in directing the organization's accounting functions, to include closing the books monthly, preparing and/or reviewing financial statements (income statement, balance sheet and cash flows), account reconciliations, leading the annual audit process, and researching accounting issues. The Controller regulates and maintains accurate, clear, concise financial information in accordance with GAAP and governmental agencies and assists with the overall management of the accounting department.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Coordinate the monthly, quarterly and annual close functions, ensuring that all transactions are booked in a timely manner and in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
  • Prepare monthly journal entries for derivative position, mark-to-market
  • Direct and integrate changes in processes into the accounting systems and accounting cycle
  • Oversee all cash management functions including daily cash-flow analysis and forecasting
  • Perform corporate financial/statutory reporting process (quarterly MBFRF and Call Reports)
  • Prepare monthly Warehouse Credit Facility Covenant reporting
  • Manage and train accounting staff including cross-training
  • Research technical accounting issues as required
  • Work with the other accounting personnel to implement internal control procedures
  • Coordinate the annual financial audit with concentration on HUD requirements
  • Review and approve balance sheet reconciliations
  • Ensure that financial reporting is accurate and that reports are issued on time.
  • Create and maintain budgeting/forecasting models
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES)

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Management
  • CPA license
  • 5 years of progressive accounting experience
    • Mortgage industry experience preferred
  • Previous supervisory experience
  • Sound judgment, ability to think critically, including the ability to evaluate facts and data to draw conclusions, determine the downstream impact of decisions and associated risks.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a deadline-driven environment; strong sense of urgency and responsiveness.
  • Excellent customer service, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong detail orientation and highly organized.
  • Demonstrate patience and professionalism when interacting with both internal and external customers.
  • Ethical, with a commitment to company values.
  • Proficiency with data entry, PDF software programs, Microsoft Word, and Excel required
