Verizon is undergoing a transformation from a telecommunications company to a technology company, and we are in search of the next generation of leaders to help us drive forward. An important piece of this initiative is transformation to an API-first approach. With products at different stages of this journey-monolithic, API-last, API-first-we need a team that can help set the right culture, process for this transformation.
An API Architect-Senior Leader will lead a team of API architects, providing them with guidance, setting targets, to enable this transformation. Responsible for the end-to-end architecture for enabling the API-first methodology to evaluating tools and setting up the platform. An API Architect-Senior Leader will be responsible for setting the overall standards for Verizon's API program.

An API Architect-Senior Leader will lead a team of API architects, providing them with guidance, setting targets, to enable this transformation. Responsible for the end-to-end architecture for enabling the API-first methodology to evaluating tools and setting up the platform. An API Architect-Senior Leader will be responsible for setting the overall standards for Verizon's API program.
As an API Architect-Senior Leader, the person will be responsible for:
- Creating the Design/Architectural standards that define guidelines, service design principles, and patterns to build robust, reliable, and secure services that expose stable, well-documented and easy to use service contracts (aka APIs) to its customers.
- Identifying tools to automate governance and help with publishing conformance to API-first (documentation to quality of API's).
- Providing end to end architecture for publishing API's including tools.
- Ensuring that the different design aspects are covered: Transport protocols (HTTP etc.); API protocol (REST etc.); service runtime libraries; reliability, observability, security, data privacy.
- Working with Technology product managers to contribute towards standards, guidelines, style guides etc.: The standards that define every aspect of API design, styling, API protocol semantics, API versioning, various communication patterns and API security.
- Setting up targets and provide leadership with updates on transformation progress.
- Ensuring API-first transformation by setting up end to end process, working in alignment with TPM's - guidelines, protocols, governance.
- Providing subject matter expertise to product, technology and development teams for API transformation.
- Building strong cross-functional partnerships at multiple levels within the company, including commercial, engineering, marketing, sales, and services.

What we're looking for...
You'll need to have:
- Bachelor's degree or four or more years of work experience.
- Six or more years of relevant work experience.
- Six or more years of previous enterprise and backend architecture experience.
- Six or more years of experience in working on mobile technologies/applications.
- Experience in developing and architecting enterprise applications.
- Experience in launching and building API and API programs.
- Willingness to travel up to approximately 25% of the time.
- Masters of Business Administration.
- Have transformed and bought the buy in of executives to developers for business transformation initiatives.
- Ability to run enterprise-wide chapters for API or enterprise architecture conformity across organization.
