What you’ll be doing...
This role is a leadership position that requires a combination of technical skills and effective, empathetic people management. The ideal candidate will own the product lifecycle through defining, designing, developing, and deploying in a fast-paced agile startup environment. You will lead a team of product managers, establishing best practices and coaching the team to their full potential. In addition to leading team members, the Director is responsible for setting and communicating strategy across the company, collaborating with peers in Engineering, Marketing, and Sales, and delivering on the user and market needs identified by their team. The Director will contribute to and promote our vision, as a champion both for the product and for the product team itself.
- Provide coaching, mentorship, and professional development opportunities; support employee wellbeing.
- Provide strategic leadership.
- Develop stronger product-engineering practices.
- Communicate organization-wide product information.
- Define and communicate product roadmaps, feature sets, and associated priorities.
- Establish and follow business priorities as it relates to product development.
- Directly lead strategic initiatives.
- Create a product culture that fosters trust, respect, and collaboration.
- Research, develop, and encourage best practices in the field of product management.
- Measure and track the success of product initiatives.
- Help teams align on objectives and processes, maintain high standards, and resolve conflicts.
- Work with individuals to identify and develop their strengths, helping team members pursue opportunities that enhance their talents.
- Constructively address situations, issues, and behaviors. Initiate difficult conversations and clearly communicate corrective actions.
- Recognize and flag stress and fatigue. Work with individuals to determine support that might improve their wellbeing.
- Support the onboarding of new Product team staff.
- Conduct and document employee performance plans, mid-year, and end-of-year performance evaluations.
Where you'll be working:
In this remote role, you'll work from home with occasional in-person trainings and meetings.
What we’re looking for...
You’ll need to have:
- Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
- Six or more years of relevant work experience.
- Demonstrated cross-group collaboration experience, capable of engaging with engineering, QA, marketing, sales, and support organizations.
- Five or more years of experience as a Product Manager or equivalent technical experience.
- Experience as a people manager.
Even better if you have:
- Technical Bachelor’s degree.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated success managing software products, ideally in a software-based business.
- Excellent teamwork skills.
- Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to adapt to changing market requirements.
