Instructional Designer (Full-Time)

Location: Hybrid. Home campus of Lyndon- some travel between campuses


BASIC FUNCTION:
Under general supervision of the Assistant Vice President of Online Programs, the Instructional Designer (ID) serves as an innovative resource providing consultation, training, and support to faculty and subject matter experts (SMEs) in designing and delivering effective and engaging online learning experiences for existing and new degree courses/programs including workforce development trainings for in demand fields. The ID provides expertise and knowledge on various pedagogical and andragogical approaches and effective practices to support online and hybrid course delivery for both credit bearing courses and courses requiring industry recognized
credentials. The is a two-year grant funded position.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Apply instructional design theories, practice, and methods in the course development and redevelopment processes.
  • Design and build online and hybrid courses in collaboration with faculty and subject matter experts (SMEs).
  • Maintain the flow of tasks and monitor due date timelines for faculty and SMEs to complete course development projects as outlined in the University’s course development procedures.
  • Align a course quality design rubric to new or existing course development and provide constructive and supportive feedback to faculty SMEs.
  • Work closely with ED of Center for Workforce and Professional Education and assigned instructor to curate industry-specific workforce development content hosted on Canvas.
  • Design and provide faculty training opportunities as appropriate.
  • Shape existing academic content into engaging and effective online learning experiences.
  • Review and revise instructional materials to ensure accuracy, clarity, and alignment of the academic content with learning objectives.
  • Follow the course development processes and policies at Vermont State University.
  • This position will require occasional travel to other campuses to meet with content experts.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

General supervision is received from the Assistant Vice President of Online Programs.
This position will work closely with the Executive Director for Workforce and
Professional Education to meet grant deliverables.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s Degree in education, business or marketing, or other appropriate discipline with one to two years of relevant experience in a college/continuing education environment or a similar combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
Knowledge:
  • Strong knowledge of online learning principles, learning theories, and instructional
design best practices.
  • Knowledge of learning management systems, specifically Canvas
  • Knowledge of MS O365
Skills:
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey
complex concepts in a clear and concise manner.
  • Excellent project management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects
simultaneously.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
Abilities:
  • Ability to deal effectively with instructors and content experts
  • Demonstrated ability to support a diverse community and promote diverse
perspectives and cultures in an inclusive environment.

This job is dependent on grant funding and will cease when grant funding is no longer available
