JOB DESCRIPTION

The Vice President of Education provides executive-level leadership to support the vision, philosophy, culture, and practices of Verner in both the Center-Based and Community-Based programs. This position is responsible for ensuring overall excellence in Verner programming, child development, curriculum, and family engagement throughout the centers and all programs.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Models and moves forward an anti-bias, trauma informed curriculum
  • Participates in and supports a culture of inclusion and belonging
  • Supports the President & CEO in effectively communicating with all stakeholders of the organization, as well as with faculty and staff, to ensure the comprehensive implementation of high-quality, trauma-informed, and developmentally appropriate curriculum and practices
  • Supervises all Center Directors, Director of Community-Based Services, and Director of Professional Development and Residency Program and oversees operations of each program
  • Serves on the Board of Directors' Program Evaluation Committee and the Verner Senior Management and Leadership Teams
  • Ensures ongoing implementation of multilingual education and language justice practices within Verner's educational programs
  • Develops and maintains oversight of budget preparation and management for all center-based and community-based programs
  • Develops and oversees strategies to effectively meet all North Carolina Division of Child Development and Early Education (DCDEE) licensing standards in partnership with the Director of Operations throughout both centers
  • In partnership with other members of leadership, the VP of Education monitors, coordinates, and ensures the provision of all Verner training, Staff Development Days, and Teacher Workdays
  • Regularly reviews and updates Program Policies & Procedures and Classroom Expectations, ensuring staff have up-to-date manuals at all times
  • Works in partnership with the VP of Grants & Continuous Improvement and the VP of Clinical Services to plan, implement, and evaluate the Verner Practice-Based Coaching approach to teacher development
  • Ensures all educators are observed at least quarterly and provides written feedback to inform performance reviews and professional development plans for Faculty and Staff
  • Provides specific program-related components in the Early Head Start (EHS) Program Information Report (PIR), as requested by the VP of Grants & Continuous Improvement
  • In partnership with the VP of Grants & Continuous Improvement, creates and monitors both the annual Training and Technical Assistance Plan for Verner and the EHS School Readiness Plan
  • Maintains working knowledge of Head Start Program Performance Standards
  • Collaborates closely with the Food & Nutrition Team on supporting Verner’s Rainbow In My Tummy Curriculum and Verner’s healthy food culture
  • Reviews and has knowledge of our assessment process and implementation.
  • Develops leadership skills in Verner Faculty and Staff
  • Other duties as assigned


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree; Master's degree preferred in Birth to Kindergarten, Early Childhood Education, Child and Family Studies, Child Development, or another related field
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in the field, with 5 years of leadership experience preferred.
  • An understanding of the regulation of child care by NCDCDEE (or similar agency) and/or Early Head Start
  • Previous Classroom and Center Director experience is strongly preferred
  • Proficiency in the full Google Suite (Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Slides, etc.)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated effective use of Reflective Practice
  • Bilingual Spanish speaking is a plus
  • Works independently and collaboratively
