Staff Accountant
Note: This is a temporary, 3-month full-time position with the strong possibility of extension

As a Staff Accountant, you will be someone who uses their past work experience working in small to medium companies to analyze and understand what needs to be done on our accounting team and you will be proactive enough complete it – even without being asked. You don’t require a lot of direction (although the door is open if you need it!), and you don’t shy away from asking questions.
What You Can Expect from Us:
This role will be instrumental in sustaining VersaFile’s rapid revenue growth and will offer you opportunity to be an instrumental part of a 3-person accounting team where you can grow your own skillset. You will report into the Controller and Operations Manager and you will be accountable for the successful and efficient maintenance of the accounting books, including:
- Ensuring policies, procedures and financial obligations are implemented and adhered to;
- performing financial and accounting functions as well as payroll related and some administrative duties;
- collaborating with various team members within the organization regarding accounting data
- contributing as a member of the organization's to achieving and advancing the organization's vision, strategic goals and operational objectives
What You’ll be Doing:
- Preparing monthly journal entries ensuring financial numbers are correct and accurate
- Preparing monthly balance sheet account reconciliations
- Preparing Payroll on a semi-monthly basis for our Canadian and US employees (about 40 in total)
- Perform and assist with month end closing and financial statements preparation, including variance analyses to the budget
- Preparing tax filings for Canada and the US on a quarterly/annual basis (eg. GST, PST, EHT, WCB, State franchise/excise tax)
- Intercompany transfer pricing billing and reconciliation
- Performing GL account analysis and assist with budget preparation
- Reviewing and maintaining cash forecasting on a weekly basis
- Overseeing revenue and cash collection and tracking
- Overseeing payment of vendors, contractors and expense claims
- Ensuring policies, procedures and financial obligations are implemented and adhered to
- Supporting with ad-hoc accounting duties and special projects and back-up to bookkeeper
Education
- Bookkeeping and / or Finance Diploma Certificate / Degree or enrolled in a professional accounting program leading to certification or degree
What Skills You'll Have:
- Proficient in computerized accounting systems and the principles and practices of accounting with a minimum of 5 years recent accounting experience at a mid-senior level
- Proficient with MS Office, Excel at intermediate/advance levels
- Required experience and knowledge of QuickBooks Online software,
- Preferred Payroll experience and qualifications; Quickbooks Payroll is considered an asset
- Familiarity with the online environment and experience/ knowledge of Microsoft Teams is an asset
- Experience with multi-currency environment and sales tax filings in the US is an asset
