LOCATION: Savage, Maryland (Hybrid work environment)

VersaTech has an opening for a Senior Accountant to be a member of our Finance and Accounting team using Deltek Costpoint. The ideal candidate should be a self-starting professional who is comfortable in a fast-paced accounting environment using analytics.

Key responsibilities include:

Prepare schedules, monthly closing journal entries, and account reconciliation for financial reports prepared in accordance with GAAP.
Ensure accuracy and timely communication of cash position updates to the Director of Finance and Accounting.
Prepare variance explanation reporting that analyzes actuals compared to Plan, Forecast, and prior periods.
Prepare year-end audit work papers and coordination with auditors.
Assist with other year-end reporting and tax package requirements.
Manage payroll preparation process for timeliness and accuracy.
Timely and accurate preparation of accounting tasks including customer billing, revenue recognition, employee reimbursement, sales tax, W-2, etc.
Lead process for calculation, presentation, and communication of companywide internal financials, KPI, and project reporting.
Assist with special projects and ad hoc requests as needed.
Lead cross-departmental coordination with Program Managers and Contracts Manager for project accounting and maintain project contract and financial documentation as necessary.
Proactively implement process improvements to streamline operations.
Ensure oversight of junior team members' responsibilities.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or related field required.
Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience, with a focus on general ledger management and financial reporting.
Proficient in using accounting software. Deltek Costpoint a plus.
In-depth knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
Experience in preparing comprehensive financial reports, including month-end closing journal entries, account reconciliation, and variance analysis.
Extensive experience in full charge accounting operations (payroll, G/L, A/P, A/R, Purchasing, FP&A, Cash management).
Strong interpersonal and communication skills for effective collaboration.
Strong analytical skills to prepare meaningful variance explanations.
