Job Summary:
The Plant Chemist is responsible for contributing to process troubleshooting, improving existing processes, raw material qualification, and lab-scale pilot work for productivity projects. Assists quality management with method development and validation. Assists in the development, implementation, and maintenance of Quality Departmental procedures. Serves as back up to Quality Control Chemist as required.
Responsibilities:
Role Specific Responsibilities:
- Assist in resolving chemistry-related process challenges through the use of literature, experimentation, and data interpretation.
- Contribute to operations troubleshooting and productivity efforts via both laboratory work and technical discussions.
- Manage the qualification of new raw material vendors and coordinate with
- Purchasing Manager.
- Participate in transferring technology from the laboratory through scale-up and pilot
- work to manufacturing by translation of technical criteria into manufacturing
- procedures, and participation on multidisciplinary teams
- Operate laboratory equipment, analytical instrumentation, and lab process
- machinery including but not limited to viscometers, GC, HPLC, and other analytical
- instrumentation
- Effectively communicate the results of laboratory work through written and oral
- reports
- Assists with I/O/P Qualification and Validation protocols for new and existing
- equipment and analytical methods
- Reviews and signs QAAL's
- Prepares laboratory reagents, standards, and mobile phases
- Calibrates and maintains quality analytical equipment
- Maintains laboratory chemicals and lab supplies inventory
- Other duties as assigned

- Reports all Health, Safety and Environmental accidents, incidents and near misses promptly

Qualifications/Desired Skills:
Education and Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in biology and/or chemistry
- Experience working in plant environment troubleshooting production processes
- Familiar with Quality Control & Quality Assurance functions
Experience:
- 5-10 years specialty chemical manufacturing experience
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Must be proficient with Microsoft Office.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills required
- Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills - written and verbal
- Appropriate use and technique in HPLC, GC, Viscometry
- Ability to multi-task and problem solve while still meeting strict deadlines
