Verveine Café & Bakery in Central Square, Cambridge is seeking motivated and passionate part and full-time bakery cooks to join our team. As a cafe/bakery cook, you will play a vital role in our café and bakery operations, assisting in the production of sandwiches, soups, salads, bowls, and small plates, as well as other savory items.
Responsibilities:
Assist savory prep and production – including but not limited to sandwiches, soups, salads, bowls, and small plates – to ensure the highest quality of all prepared foods
Execute techniques under the direction of the Sous Chef and Chef
Learn various cooking methods and techniques employed in the kitchen
Set up and break down stations
Slicing, bagging, and packaging product for display and deliveries
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment – follow all safety and sanitation protocols
Assist in receiving deliveries and inventory management
Collaborate effectively with other staff members, assisting as needed, and learning diverse skills
Maintain mindful and detail-oriented hospitality with guests
Skills and Requirements:
1 year previous experience in a professional bakery or culinary environment, with a focus on baking, preferred
Familiarity with various baking techniques and principals, ingredients, and equipment. Experience with laminated doughs and gluten-free baking a plus.
Must be a source of positivity, curious, creative, willing to learn, and ask questions
Able to maintain the highest of standards of food quality, presentation, sanitation, and safety
Work well with direction, but able to take initiative and be independent
Highly organized with a precision to detail. Ability to follow recipes and measurements accurately to ensure consistent results.
Ability to multi-task, prioritize tasks effectively to meet production schedules, as well as cross train and learn diverse duties
Must be a team collaborator, have strong interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to contribute to create a culture and work environment based on respect and support
Ability to stand for extended periods, lift heavy objects (up to 50 lbs), and work in a fast-paced environment
Flexibility to work early morning, weekend, and holiday shifts
