The position is located within the Diagnostic Imaging Service at the Phoenix Veterans Health Care System (PVHCS). In this position, you will serve as a Health Technician (Radiology), performing both clinical and administrative duties.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE
GS-06 grade level:
One (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors); experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience includes:
  • Providing direct patient care in a radiology/imaging healthcare setting (or similar environment);
  • Assisting MRI supervisors/technologists with tasks within the scope of the health technician (i.e., obtaining patient medical history, preparing patients for MRI or similar examinations, documenting patient medical records, etc.);
  • Providing general clerical/administrative support for a health clinic or office; and
  • Receiving and interpreting requests and/or instructions for procedures from medical or health care personnel.
NOTE: Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Responsibilities:

The major duties and responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:
  • Providing general clerical/administrative support for the clinic (e.g., assisting Veteran with screening forms, keeping records, etc.).
  • Interacting with patients and explaining the various type of MRI exam procedures.
  • Looking up lab results for patients including eGFR (estimated globular filtration results).
  • Filling out MRI screening forms and instructing the patient how to complete the required paperwork.
  • Locating and setting up equipment and all accessories and understanding proper positioning.
  • Reviewing MRI prescreening forms, identifying possible MRI contraindications within the patient's history, and bringing these to the attention of the MRI technologist.
  • Receiving and interpreting requests and/or instructions for procedures from medical or health care personnel.
  • Securing patients' confidence and cooperation during procedures.
  • Performing general maintenance duties including cleaning, arranging, and restocking supply cabinets, cleaning and sorting supplies, putting away coils, and equipment, calling attention to deficiencies in supplies and equipment.

Work Schedule: To be determined. Note: This position may be required to work various tours of duty as deemed necessary by management to provide seven-day coverage including evenings, weekends, and holidays on established shifts to provide quality care.

Physical Requirements: The position includes physical exertion such as regular and recurring walking, stooping, bending, reaching and lifting of equipment and supplies. The incumbent must be able to, perform the following: pulling, pushing, reaching above the shoulders and laterally, use both hands, arms; sitting, walking, and standing for long periods. Also, kneeling, repeated bending.
