Summary of the Job: Assist Chief Compliance Officer with daily compliance duties and serve as back-up for other Compliance Department employees. The Compliance Department Analyst is responsible for assisting in the development, implementation, and monitoring and maintenance of a compliance program designed to ensure that each functional area of the bank achieves and maintains compliance with all applicable banking laws, regulations, and regulatory agency issuance’s.
Essential Functions:
- Perform periodic tests of transactions and procedures to ensure the effectiveness of the compliance program.
- Assist in developing, administering and monitoring programs that ensure the financial institution’s compliance with laws, regulations and rules governing operations and product offerings.
- Assist in researching federal and state banking laws and regulations, review the financial institution’s policies and procedures, and ensure financial institution compliance with laws and regulations.
- Assists with the development of the risk-based compliance program activities and completing of the annual compliance risk assessments. Help the Compliance Officer schedule meetings with departments and supervisors, as necessary, to provide information on compliance changes that affect them.
- Assist in scheduling compliance audits of Southside Bank and supplying information to the Board of Directors.
- Proactively monitors the industry and regulatory activity to identify trends, potential impact, best practices, and opportunities for ongoing improvements to the compliance management program.
- Assist the Chief Compliance Officer in identifying and mitigating potential risks in new vendor engagements, service modifications and product changes.
Additional Functions:
- Perform routine duties with minimal supervision using standard practices or procedures.
- Comply with all safety policies, practices and procedures.
- Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve the goals of the financial institution.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Education/Experience:
- High School diploma or general education degree (GED).
- Extensive knowledge in banking and mortgage operations is required
- Comprehensive knowledge of consumer banking regulations.
- Minimum of two years of experience within a bank compliance program or risk management.
Necessary Skills:
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations. Ability to write information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
- Ability to add, subtract multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Intermediate personal computer skills, including electronic mail, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, etc.
- Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
Physical Activity/Dexterity:
- Manual dexterity sufficient to reach/handle items and work with fingers. Works with fingers and perceives attributes of objects and materials.
Physical Environment Demands:
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position 90% of the time.
- The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office to visit other offices, conference rooms, office machinery, etc.
- Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and telephone.
- Constantly positions self to operate on a computer.
- The person in this position frequently communicates with other people throughout each day. Must be able to exchange accurate information when conversing.
Working Conditions/Environment:
- Well-lighted, heated and/or air-conditioned indoor office setting with adequate ventilation.
- Moderate noise (e.g. business office with computers and printers, light traffic).
Work Schedule/Hours:
- Monday through Friday; 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
- Available for overtime as necessary.
