ABOUT THE POSITION
Civil Design Engineer | Hybrid | Newark, NJ
VHB is seeking a Civil Design Engineer, to join our dynamic and growing Transportation practice in the Northeast. This position provides an opportunity to work on complex transportation projects and play an important role in expanding and shaping the group.
Responsibilities
- Work within a team of professionals in developing engineering plans, reports, and specifications for a multitude of projects
- Civil engineering may include including grading and drainage design, utility design, site, water main pipeline and roadway layout
- Preparation and/or reviewing design criteria, drawings, and specifications
- Preparation of schematic design, design development, and construction contract documentation
- Assist in the preparation of permitting, design, and construction documents
- Project task financial performance, and management of small or medium projects
- Engagement in business development and client relations
- Attending meetings with clients, regulatory agencies, and stakeholders to establish their needs and discuss design/permitting issues
- Technical and design report writing
Skills and Attributes
- Working knowledge of standard concepts, practices, and procedures in civil engineering
- Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
- Knowledge of local and state regulations governing site design
- Experience with GIS Systems, AutoCAD and Civil3D preferred
- Ability to think critically
- Attention to detail
- Self-motivated
Qualifications
- 3-5 years of civil design engineering experience required
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (a master’s degree may be substituted for 1 year of experience)
- Engineer in Training certification preferred
- Experience with MicroStation or AutoCAD is required and HCS experience is a plus
