ABOUT THE POSITION
VHB, a locally and nationally recognized leader in design, has a Community Planner position open in our Planning Design Studio in the Orlando, Florida office. The ideal candidate is a highly talented, energetic, and creative individual with a desire to work in a fun, close-knit environment.
VHB offers a highly creative teamwork environment with projects that remain at the forefront of community planning for both public and private clients. Our projects include community planning and visioning, large scale urban master plans, Form Based Codes, Sector Plans and private developer consulting. The scope of these services ranges from conceptual plans to urban design to Code and Policy writing as well as all types of entitlement applications. The experience in the Studio will be broad, deep and challenging. The opportunity to learn and grow is both exciting and expected of the successful candidate.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the research and preparation of due diligence reports. Research and interpret comprehensive policy plans, zoning regulations and Land Development Codes.
- Assist in the preparation of entitlement application submittal packages per requirements of municipalities and submit applications.
- Prepare graphics, maps and diagrams as required to support due diligence reports and/or entitlement applications.
- Prepare presentation materials for public meetings. Attend and assist with public presentations and workshops.
- Assist the urban designers in the preparation of master plans and site-specific designs.
- Effectively interact with numerous VHB staff, clients, and consultants to advance projects in a timely manner.
- Actively participate with other design disciplines within VHB contributing to our integrated, collaborative services including civil engineering, transportation planning, landscape architecture and biological science.
Skills and Attributes
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to independently manage multiple tasks and interact appropriately and positively with clients and staff.
- Self-motivated with attention to detail.
- Ability to make graphic exhibits and maps with GIS, ACAD, Photoshop, Illustrator, Sketch-up and/or other graphic software.
- Softline plans, rendering and illustrative exhibit, presentation graphics skills and 3-D Design and rendering skills is an asset
- Knowledge and experience in innovative planning initiatives including smart growth, new urbanism and sustainability is desirable.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, InDesign, Excel, GIS, AUTOCAD and other production software is required.
Qualifications
- 0-1 years of experience; preferably an internship with private consulting firm.
- Bachelor’s degree in planning, Urban Design/Studies or related field; Master’s degree preferred.
- Must have the ability to conduct tasks independently.
