ABOUT THE POSITION
VHB is seeking a dynamic and talented Transportation Safety Engineer to join our Safety Team in one of our Virginia offices (Richmond, Williamsburg, or Tysons) or in Metro D.C. The selected candidate will support our clients’ efforts to analyze, plan, and design new and improved transportation facilities that support and enhance mobility for all transportation modes while reducing crashes, saving lives, and preventing injuries.
Responsibilities
- Work within a team of professionals in developing transportation engineering, safety, and planning solutions for multimodal transportation projects
- Conduct research and data analysis
- Perform traffic engineering analysis
- Perform safety and operational studies
- Conduct field reviews
- Prepare conceptual and detailed design plans
- Prepare written planning documents, summarize data, and assemble technical reports
- Provide communications support

Qualifications
- Strong interest in active transportation
- BS or MS in Civil Engineering, Transportation Planning, or related field
- EIT preferred
- 0-1 years of transportation experience, preferably related to safety and/or multimodal engineering
- Proficiency in at least some of the following systems: Word, Excel, Access, database management, GIS, Stata, SPSS, SAS, or similar
- Proficiency in at least some of the following systems: Synchro/SimTraffic, MicroStation/AutoCAD, MS Office, Vissim, GIS
- Limited familiarity with national and/or local transportation engineering standards, including VDOT, AASHTO, MUTCD, Highway Capacity Manual, Highway Safety Manual and/or ITE guidance documents preferred
