Learn how to effectively operate a food shelf in a busy hunger relief program in Brattleboro, Vermont. Help with community outreach efforts to reach more people in need at a time when food insecurity has increased significantly. Support Foodworks’ guests with accessing food and in building relationships during this time of isolation. Participate in community-led efforts to destigmatize getting help and building food justice.

Groundworks Collaborative is a non-profit agency serving Windham County, whose mission is to provide ongoing support to families and individuals facing housing and food insecurities. The goal of this position is to enhance the services within Foodworks, a community food shelf and project of Groundworks Collaborative. This position will support staff by conducting pickups of food donations from a central food bank and local grocery stores. The person who fills this role will be vital to the daily operations of the food shelf.

Essential Functions:

· Assist in the operation of the food shelf, including stocking shelves, checking clients in, assisting with shopping, and picking up food from the Vermont Foodbank and local grocery stores.

· Support community outreach efforts including organizing food drives, tabling in the community, and maintaining and fostering new connections with local businesses, groceries, and farms.

· Assist with intake process, forms, and record keeping.

· Participate in an Independent Service Project under the guidance of VHCB AmeriCorps

· Participate in all VHCB AmeriCorps Trainings, Service Days, Events, and Program Initiatives.

· Engage in professional and personal development activities and networking opportunities.

Additional Information:

This position includes serving indoors and outdoors, and primarily functions Monday – Friday with a flexible schedule.

Position begins September 11th, 2023 and ends August 9th, 2024.

This position is Full Time: Requires 1,720 hours for an average of 40 hours per week for 47 weeks. Member will receive a living allowance of $26,000 (pre-tax), a housing allowance of $300 per month, and an education award of $6,895 (pre-tax) upon successful completion of service.
