Job Posting for Project Assistant at Victim Services, Office for
Minimum Qualifications
Four years of experience in maintaining records in a warehouse or office setting. An Associate’s Degree or higher may substitute for 2 years of experience.
Duties Description
Responsible for daily intake of items at the OVS Sexual Offense Evidence Collection Kit (SOECK) storage facility, including data entry and physical handling of potential evidence;
Clean and sanitize work surfaces using appropriate PPE to handle potential evidence;
Document condition of evidence packaging and mitigate issues including resealing packages and containers with evidence tape and/or placing in separate containers;
Maintain chain of custody and protect confidentiality of information;
Monitor environmental systems of facility to ensure conditions follow best practices or other industry standards by conducting daily system checks such as temperature logs, etc.;
Conduct annual inventories and routine audits of stored potential evidence;
Problem-solve when issues arise that need to be mitigated;
Work with hospitals or common carrier coordination;
Responsible for answering phone calls and directing those calls, and setting up meetings or conference calls when necessary;
Produce documents such as spreadsheets and software generated reports for chain of custody and auditing;
Use basic computer software to utilize the facility tracking software and other administrative tasks;
Respond to subpoenas and testify in court, if required;
Review and process claims under the Forensic Rape Exam (FRE) direct reimbursement program; and
Physically move kits and retrieve items up to approximately 30lb that may be on shelving.
Additional Comments
These positions are being filled for a temporary period of approximately 18 months. The positions may be extended pending operational need and approval from the Division of Budget. Temporary employment may also lead to permanent appointment in the future.
