Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide legal counsel and guidance to the officers of the organization and upper management on a variety of healthcare related legal matters, including rules and regulations, policies and procedures, arising in day-to-day operations of a complex organization in a heavily regulated environment
- Ensure compliance with the HIPAA Privacy Rule, other Privacy Laws, and Antikickback rules/regulations and other related regulatory matters
- Assist with contract processes (e.g. review, draft, negotiate, etc.) for all business units of the organization
- Oversee delivery of legal services and resources to accomplish corporate goals, strategies, and priorities
- Provide legal guidance on employment related/personnel matters
- Maintain proper corporate interactions with the relevant, state, local and federal governmental agencies
- Advise executive leadership team on a variety of issues
- Develop a thorough understanding of and familiarity with the Company’s business, its people, markets, facilities, customers, and competitors in order to identify trends and formulate appropriate legal advice, structure, and strategies
- Advises Chief Privacy Officer and the Company’s Compliance Department on applicable policies and procedures, best practices and assists with awareness of risks to stakeholders
- Other responsibilities and projects as assigned by the General Counsel
Qualifications
- D. from an American Bar Association accredited law school
- Ten (10) plus years of progressively responsible healthcare related experience
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, both verbal and written, in order to interact knowledgeably with and impact both internal and external parties
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to convey highly technical information understandably to a wide variety of audiences
- Superior project management ability and drive-for-results mentality
- Keen ability to think and act strategically, planning for the long-term while balancing the short and long-range needs of the organization
- Demonstrates high standards regarding the quality of thoroughness of business and technical analysis
- Ability to partner effectively with all lines of business internally and interface with clients, brokers, vendors, and executive management
Access to Protected Health Information (PHI)
- This position will require the employee to handle Protected Health Information (PHI) for duties related to document and report preparation. Policies and procedures will be strictly adhered to make sure PHI is protected as required by the HIPAA Privacy Rule.
Working Conditions
- This position will work in an office environment located in the Company’s Home Office. Hybrid schedules (i.e., partial work from home schedules) will be permitted at the discretion of the General Counsel.
