Position Summary:Fit and/or Weld fabricated steel components in the assembly and production of new build fabrication equipment while complying with company Health, Safety, and Environmental Processes. Perform material fitting work including lay-out and fit-up welded or bolted detail.This position will require to beactive member of Local Union 104 in good standing or have the ability to join Local Union 104 upon hire.

Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities:

  • Understand, promote and adhere to a Safety First culture by following safety guidelines and requirements at all times, understanding and properly utilizing the appropriate personal protective equipment for each situation.
  • Set up and operate welding equipment applying advanced knowledge of weld electrodes and wire, machine settings, quality and quantity standards, and the use of oxygen/fuel gas torch for cutting and pre-heat.
  • Read and interpret work specifications, work orders, blueprints and schematics
  • Lay-out and fit-up welded or bolted detail, show weld sizes, piece marks, direction marks, and other markings according to work specifications, work orders, blueprints, and schematics.
  • Understand, perform, and effectively communicate the results of quality assurance and non-destructive testing procedures.
  • Visually inspect completed welds to assure adherence to specifications.
  • Perform routine and minor maintenance on equipment, using advanced knowledge of the equipment and the processes to determine the appropriate timing and type of maintenance required. Communicate with maintenance and facilities departments when appropriate
  • Perform air arc gouging when removing welds or preparing weld joints
  • Consistently meet individual daily production goals as set by superintendents, supervisors and designated lead employees

Secondary Functions:

  • Pulling cable, hoses, or leads
  • Cleaning
  • Minor staging
  • Rigging
  • Mentoring and training of other trades people
  • Attend training classes to include but not limited to confined space, crane operator, forklift training, etc.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Safely perform work in small and/or confined spaces, on ladders, and at heights of 20 feet or more.
  • Produce high quality welds passing a 3G and 4G D1.5 weld test.
  • Recognize and resolve unsafe working conditions.
  • Effectively communicate information and ideas in English both verbally and in writing without assistance or translation.
  • Ability to interpret and comply with WPS "Weld Procedure Certification" forms.
  • Ability to become certified in the operations and control of equipment and systems, including, Overhead Crane Operation, Hi-Lift Operation, and JLG Operation.
  • Conduct and interpret test and inspections of products or processes to evaluate quality or performance
  • Complete installation and fabrication to exceed published standards and/or project specifications
  • Perform math calculations (add, subtract, divide, multiply) and use mathematics based logic to solve complex problems
  • Accurately use a tape measure and other measuring devices

Supervisory Responsibility:None

Interpersonal Contacts:This position works both independently and as part of a team. The ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with others within the team, in other parts of the organization, and within other closely aligned organizations is essential in this role.This position routinely works with minimal supervision taking instruction from specifications, work orders, blueprints, schematics, and other documentation.

Education and/or Experience:

  • High-school diploma or GED equivalent
  • A minimum of 3 yrs combination welding and fitting experience in a heavy manufacturing environment

Certificates, Licenses and Registrations:

  • Be an active member of Local Union 104 in good standing or have the ability to join Local Union 104 upon hire.

Physical Demands:

  • Work is performed in a wide variety of environments including heights of 20 feet or more, small and/or confined spaces, and outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Will routinely bend, twist, kneel, walk, climb, and reach for 1-12 hours per day.
  • Will sit, stand, and walk for 1-12 hours per day.
  • Will endure noise, fumes, dust, and inclement weather.
  • Must be able to lift and carry 1-60 lbs throughout the day.
  • Must be able to push or pull up to 75 lbs and safely wear a respirator when needed.
