Boat Yard Bottom Crew

VIKING YACHT SERVICE CENTER, a subsidiary of VIKING YACHT COMPANY, is seeking to add to their Yard / Bottom Crew team! Bottom paint or travel lift experience a plus!

Job Summary:

Performs general yard and heavy equipment duties under the supervision of the Yard Manager.

Essential Duties:

1. Assists in the removal of vessels from water, using movable lift crane or marine railway.

2. Moves vessels and equipment to and from storage or work bays.

3. Positions and secures blocking at bottom and sides of vessels according to size, weight, and weight distribution of vessels, using fasteners, hand tools, and power tools.

4. Follow defined instructions and procedures in performance of vessel moving tasks to an exacting degree.

5. Maintains knowledge of tides and assists in the coordination of boat movement.

6. Handles lines and has on-the water and boat handling experience.

7. Pressure washes, sands, tapes and paints boat bottoms and boot stripes.

8. Can operate a fork truck and learns to operate other heavy equipment (e.g., travel lift).

9. Sets up and dismantles staging following OSHA staging guidelines.

10. Assists other departments (maintenance, detail, FRP) during slow periods and special events.

11. Follow prescribed safety rules and regulations and maintain safe, clean work area.

12. All work to be performed to Viking Company quality standards.

13. Perform other related duties as necessary and assigned.

Qualifications:

High School Diploma or General Equivalency Degree (GED)

Heavy equipment training

Fork lift training

Basic mechanical hand tools and outerwear for all types of weather conditions supplied by candidate

Must be able to swim/tread water

Physical Requirements:

Lift and Carry up to 60 lbs. on frequent basis (over 40% and up to 70%).

Requires frequently lifting or moving heavy weight materials.

Must be able to stoop, bend, kneel, lift, push and pull.

Requires frequent mental and visual attention on an intermittent basis.

Requires working under somewhat disagreeable conditions on an occasional basis where elements such as dust, dirt, heat, fumes, cold, vibration, noise, water or chemicals may be present.

Performs work on and around water/dock.

Requires use of a respirator.

Frequent overtime is required.
