Description of Duties Summary
Under the general direction of the Program Supervisor, the JRC Intern is responsible to provide quality care and supervision for the clients assigned to the JRC program, carrying out the treatment plan designed for each client; Carries out all job responsibilities with fidelity and accountability to the Agencies Mission, Vision, Values, Guiding Principles and Strategic Plan.
Job Responsibilities:
- Intern completes intake orientation with youth and families in a timely manner.
- Completes all required state and agency documentation including assessments with youth and families.
- Works with Activities coordinator and Lead Counselor to support youth progress at JRC
- Meet with youth on an individual basis to update progress determined by the JRC supervisor.
- Completes any agency/community referrals as needed for the youth and the family.
- Conducts monthly home visits with Case Manager and with youth and parent.
- Collaborates and communicates with probation officers, schools, and various community recourses on case activity, progress, and planning.
- Obtains weekly attendance from the schools.
- Plans, schedules, and implements youth guided therapeutic recreation activities as scheduled.
- Directs clients in the daily routine of the JRC Program
- Provides individual and group supervision to clients in care and accounts for all in his/her care at all times.
- Participates in the cleaning and upkeep of the JRC facility.
- Applies approved crisis intervention / prevention techniques utilizing accepted practices per agency policy and procedures.
- Assists program supervisor and case manager in life skills and/or psycho educational groups for youth in the program.
- Maintains daily and group logs for each client.
- Build community connections for youth in care to continue with upon discharge from program.
- Completes daily progress notes into the SmartCare data base system.
- Completes a weekly summary on each youth and submits to FACT/ Probation.
- Serves as the primary counselor to designated youth determined by the supervisor.
- Participates and Facilitates “Just Try” along with Probation
- Adheres to established policies and procedures and makes suggestions for improvement as needed.
- Exhibits punctuality to work, attendance, meetings, trainings and other assigned duties.
- Demonstrates, promotes, and practices cultural competency towards clients, families and staff with respect and understanding achieved through training and Agency cultural activities.
- Other responsibilities as designated by Supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Associate degree in social work or related human services field preferred, one year of childcare experience is preferred.
- Must be able to work evenings.
- Possesses a valid NYS driver’s license in good standing per agency policy.
- Comfortable with community-based work with high-risk youth
