What are the responsibilities and job description for the Music Coordinator position at Vincentian?
Summary:
The Music Community Coordinator is responsible for providing the residents with a variety of large & small quality music programs, one-to-one visits and sensory/environmental stimulation and lead the music & memory program on all communities based on resident need to enhance the quality of each resident’s life at the facility.
It is the duty of all employees to promote and support a resident centered care environment that ensures the treatment of all residents, family members, visitors, fellow employees and customers with kindness, respect, and dignity
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Commits to the Vincentian Collaborative System (VCS) mission to nurture and sustain a ministry of compassionate care that preserves the human dignity of persons within a diverse and changing society.
2. Upholds and promotes the VCS values of spirituality, compassion, quality, dignity, collaboration, advocacy and stewardship.
3. Promotes and supports a resident centered care environment that ensures the treatment of all residents, family members, visitors, fellow employees and customers with kindness, respect, and dignity.
4. Adheres to all facility and department work rules, policies and procedures.
5. Plans, schedules, organize and implements programs of individual and group activities.
6. Completes the activities component of the resident assessment.
7. Identifies and documents in the resident’s care plan the activity interests, needs and related problems of the resident.
8. Documents all interactions with resident and/or family in the assessment and care plan as required by state standards.
9. Transports/assists residents to and from activities as necessary.
10. Observes and reports pertinent information related to resident care to supervisor.
11. Maintains neatness of activity areas including proper storage and infection control of activity supplies.
12. Documents necessary information reflecting resident plan of care for activities and assures compliance with regulatory standards. Maintains activity attendance records for each resident.
13. Communicates effectively with residents, family members, volunteers, and other members of the health care team.
14. Attends required educational programs and department meetings.
15. Lead Music & Memory education programs to educate staff on the implementation of using the I-shuffle and staff documentation on point click care.
16. Meet with individual family members to obtain resident personalized music preferences for their I-shuffles.
17. Set-up personalized I-shuffles for residents, oversee all documentation and develop on going communication of resident outcome to the clinical team.
18. Assists in the orientation of new personnel and volunteers as assigned.
19. Maintains resident medical and social history confidentiality at all times.
20. Assists in preparing and distributing activity calendars by the first of each month.
21. Plans, organizes and implements a variety of expressive and creative music activities based on the needs, interests, preferences and abilities of the residents including resident chorus, holiday celebrations and special events.
22. Assists in the implementation of programs that enhance a sense of well-being; provides education, creativity, provides activity programs to meet the physical, cognitive, psychosocial, spiritual and recreational needs; promotes rehabilitation, independence, self-image and quality of life for residents.
23. Recommends ordering of supplies.
24. Provides individualized music sensory stimulation, and musical social programs for residents.
25. Observes resident’s physical and psychological needs, attitudes, reactions, etc.; reports unusual observations to supervisor.
26. Anticipates and takes action to maintain a safe environment. Incorporates safety/risk management standards into daily work practices.
27. Performs all other duties assigned.
28. Required to support the organization’s Code of Ethical Conduct and Compliance Program by timely reporting any actual or suspected compliance, fraud and abuse, ethics or policy violations.
Education/Experience:
1. High School graduate or equivalent required. Associated Degree in Music or related field preferred.
2. Previous training or experience in activities or recreational therapy preferred.
3. Proficient in voice and play a musical instrument proficiently; preferred piano, keyboard, guitar.
