Production Technician – TPS/SOFI, 1st Shift
Position Summary
Virgin Orbit (VO) is seeking a new member for our team to serve as a Production Technician – TPS/SOFI (Spray On Foam Insulation), 1st Shift. If you join us in this position, you should have an understanding of polyurethane spray foam systems used in aerospace or building construction applications. This position is for a highly motivated and detail-oriented self-starter. The position is full-time at our rocket factory in beautiful Long Beach, California.
Your Mission
- Install thermal protection components such as cork and spray on foam.
- Operate a two-part foam application machine.
- Operate an environmentally controlled spray/paint booth.
- Own safety on the shop floor including developing policies associated with safety and PPE.
- Recommend and implement continuous improvement activities in production methods, equipment performance and team effectiveness.
- Ability to train and lead team members, be willing to lead by example and jump in to help when required.
- Use of hand tools to maintain spray booth equipment and install thermal protection materials.
- Help Virgin Orbit do our part to make the world a better place

- Perform other duties assigned

- 2 years prior experience with the application of spray on foam insulation in aerospace or building construction applications.
- Ability and willingness to thrive in a fast-paced, rapidly changing work environment.
- Absolutely must be driven, highly motivated, and committed to improvement.

- Generally high level of all-around awesomeness.
- Must be a U.S. person as defined by the ITAR (22 CFR §120.15).
- Must be able to work varying hours/shifts and available for overtime as well as weekends when needed.
- Must be able to stand for extended periods of time – 8 hours minimum.
- Must be able to stoop, bend, crawl, and able to maneuver in tight spaces.
- Physically able to handle items weighing up to 25lbs (unassisted).
- Must be able to travel to (location) up to --% of the time.
- Valid CA driver’s license required with clean driving record.
- Passion for space exploration and a firm belief in the utility of affordable access to space.
- Ability and desire to perform in a fast-paced, rapidly changing work environment.
- Self-driven, highly motivated, and committed to improvement, inter-team communication skills, and attention to detail.
- Must be able to provide proof of US-approved Covid-19 full vaccination status, unless otherwise exempted by an approved reasonable medical or religious accommodation from Virgin Orbit.

ITAR Requirements
To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, applicant must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by ITAR (22 CFR §120.15) or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
