Central State Hospital is currently seeking an experienced individual to be responsible for controlling all access to and from a maximum-security unit where court ordered patients from the criminal justice system are assigned for psychiatric evaluation and/or treatment. The successful candidate will wear protective gear during the course of their shift and work with the most acute patients in the Forensic Program. They will be expected to intervene verbally and physically to maintain a safe and secure environment. Additional duties include but are not limited to: supervising and observing patients’ activities; transporting and escorting patients within the Forensic Program or to destinations throughout the facility, to courts, hospitals, medical appointments and other facilities in the state; assisting with the admission process to include the searching of patients; participating with seclusion and restraints activities; explaining unit policies/regulations. This position will also secure items not allowed in the unit; including inspecting packages; operating electrical doors; receiving incoming telephone calls; notifying staff of deliveries; issuing keys and maintaining a key record inventory.

Minimum Qualifications
THE EXPERIENCE WE’RE LOOKING TO ADD TO OUR TEAM:

  • Willingness to wear safety equipment as required.

  • Ability to work Evening Shift (2:00p.m. – 10:00p.m.) or Night Shift (10:00p.m. – 6:00a.m.)

  • Possession of a high school diploma or equivalency.

  • Experience in the field of security and/or mental health experience.

  • A valid driver’s license and the willingness to work any shift, work overtime, and work flex shifts as needed, if required.

  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions; possess excellent observation, decision making and documentation skills.

  • Possession of excellent motor skills, ability to lift heavy objects and use upper extremities to hold, grasp and manipulate work materials.

  • Ability to bend at waist and knees; walk and/or stand a minimum of 90% of the time on the shift, and be able to deal appropriately with verbally abusive, physically aggressive & provocative behaviors from our patient population.

  • Ability to administer CPR, as well as perform duties independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications
WE’RE EXCITED IF YOU ALSO HAVE:

  • Previous work experience in safety and security.

  • Previous work experience in a mental health setting.

Special Requirements
An extensive criminal history background investigation, employment references, and drug testing will be conducted.
