General Description: Reporting to the Chief of External Relations, this position will originate and prepare written material, such as scripts, stories, advertisements, and other material. Work may involve internal communications, marketing/advertising, and strategic communications. Individual should be able to adhere to prescribed editorial guidelines without sacrificing creativity.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Duties involve conducting research and writing and editing internal employee communication, press releases, newsletters, speeches/talking points, Board of Directors’ documents and reports, marketing and promotional materials, website content, and social media.
  • Research, develop, and create industry-related topics that align with business goals.
  • Create, develop, and publish high-quality, engaging, and relevant content to promote VCSFA.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on written assignments to include Subject Matter Experts (SME’s) and department heads, to ensure consistency of content.
  • Write, develop, and edit event scripts, speeches, Board of Directors’ documents and reports, marketing and promotional materials, press releases, interviews and any other external communications.
  • Assists the External Relations team with social media, graphics, and web production.
  • Work with internal graphics team to develop written collateral materials, marketing campaigns, and presentations.
  • Helps the team craft and refine ideas, report, and write articles on a routine basis for VCSFA website and newsletter.
  • Support launch guest-operations as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARD

General Education:

College: Bachelor's Degree required; advanced degree preferred. Major: English, Journalism, Communication Studies or related field

Job-Related Experience: Seven plus years of proven professional writing experience as well as experience in strategic communications, public affairs, and/or marketing. Experience conducting research using multiple sources. Experience working in coordination with and/or leading graphics teams in the development of visual presentations and PowerPoint. Familiarity with aerospace, launch, and/or engineering preferred.

Certifications: None

Licenses, etc.: Valid driver's license is necessary when operating a vehicle while on agency business.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of principles and methods for showing and promoting a product or service.
  • Knowledge of marketing strategy and tactics.
  • Knowledge of media production, communication and dissemination techniques and methods using alternative ways to inform via written, oral and visual media.

Skills:

  • Proven skill and work experience as a Content Writer.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
  • Advanced proficiency in all Microsoft Office Applications.
  • Skilled in effectively conveying information to others.

Abilities:

  • Ability to tailor writing style to suit the target audience.
  • Ability to work on multiple writing projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to timely meet deadlines.
  • Attention to detail.

Physical Demands: Work is light requiring lifting of computer equipment and involves typical office behaviors. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will:

  • Regularly perform desk-based computer tasks
  • Frequently stand/walk, sit, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, and use a telephone, writing by hand.
  • Occasionally reach/work above shoulders, grasp forcefully, and sort/file paperwork or parts, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.
  • Occasionally climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Visual and auditory acuity, including color vision required.
  • Position may travel between sites at a minimum of once a month, with the possibility of more frequent travel required and possible national and international travel.

Work Environment: Work is performed in a typical office setting.
