Summary:
This position is to support grant-funded research in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology. It requires processing and analyzing human samples and performance of molecular and cellular biology techniques.
Typical Duties
The successful applicant will be expected to learn and execute technical analyses without direct supervision. The successful candidate will work with others in the laboratory in a collaborative fashion to obtain high throughput multi omic data. Written and digital records of experiments are required and sharing results in weekly meetings is expected. Daily maintenance of organized work area is necessary so that all items are available as needed for current research in the lab. Other duties and activities may be required as directed by supervisor.
Typical Education and Experience
B.A./B.S, M.S. or Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, with at least two years of appropriate research experience in molecular technology, is required. Skills in Molecular Biology (including PCR and RT-PCR, high throughput DNA and RNA sequencing) are preferred. Also helpful: computer skills (word processing, graphics, statistical analysis), nucleic acid purification, knowledge of basic chemistry (determination of molarity, protein concentration and dilutions), electrophoresis, ability to use basic lab equipment including balances and centrifuges, pH meter, spectrophotometers and microscopes. Facility to interact with a diverse group of individuals, and evidence of ability to learn new techniques quickly are also essential. Good organizational skills and effective oral and written communication skills in English are required.
Preference for specific experience and microbiome sample processing, storage and processing. Experience with storage, archiving, maintaining and retrieving samples from large repositories.
