Position Summary/Overview:
The HR Specialist will work to design and deliver training and learning opportunities that meet the needs of VCU faculty and staff. The individual will help design, develop, deliver, evaluate, and continuously improve training, learning and other types of HR development programs that result in the overall growth and development of VCU talent.
This position works as a member of and with the VCU HR Learning, Development and Organizational Culture team. Responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
Designing and executing training programs, in person and virtually, for employees by collaborating with HR leaders and other strategic partners
Developing and enhancing resources for employees
Interpreting HR policies to meet university and departmental objectives and to help train accordingly
Coordinating, designing, facilitating, and updating New Employee Orientation in person and online along with on-boarding processes
Engaging in program measurement and evaluation using data.
Engaging with strategic partners to address emerging orientation and onboarding needs for all university employees, including faculty.
Ensuring orientation and onboarding experiences from a new employee perspective reinforce the intent of and requirements for success within VCU’s Culture of Care and Appreciation, and Quest 2028 goals
Managing the team email account and providing responses to FAQ’s about VCU tuition benefits, NEO, etc.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in human resources or a related field or equivalent combination of education, experience, and training
Experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU
Outstanding customer service skills and a high degree of professionalism
Knowledge of principles and procedures related to one of the following areas: benefits, compensation, employee relations, recruitment, succession, HRIS, training, etc.
Sound knowledge of and ability to perform the functions of their specialty area(s)
Ability to synthesize information, provide advice, and address needs independently
Knowledge of federal, state, local and University policies and regulations
Ability to conduct activities and make decisions according to ethical standards
Ability to analyze and present information and maintain accurate and detailed records
Ability to manage multiple competing priorities and effectively prioritize assignments
Excellent oral and written communication in daily interactions and information and ability to advise other professionals on policy and procedures
Excellent presentation/facilitation skills
Ability to evaluate workplace learning and development programs
Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information appropriately and with discretion
Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team, complete tasks without immediate supervision, work with senior leaders to accomplish goals with the ability to lead and train
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to build relationships across the organization
Passion and curiosity for teaching and learning
Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU
Preferred Qualifications:
SHRM-CP Human Resources certification or equivalent Human Resources certification
Master’s in Adult Education or related field
Experience with Cornerstone/Talent@VCU
Experience with Camtasia and/or Articulate 360, Zoom, Canvas, Google Meet, and Google Workplace
