What are the responsibilities and job description for the Custodian position at Virginia Dept of Social Services - Local?
This occupational group is comprised of one title. It is a full performance level determined by the expertise required to keep buildings in clean and orderly condition with the Local Departments of Social Services. The duties required of a Custodian include replenishing stock in bathrooms, cleaning restrooms, gathering and emptying trash, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and dusting. Keeping the office as clean and tidy as possible is the overall responsibility. Reports needs and concerns to appropriate staff, which may include submitting or recommending work orders and checking supply. Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices. Performs cleaning functions specific to the assigned facilities and/or based on seasonal/project requirements. May assist or perform snow removal activities. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Working knowledge of cleaning techniques, and proper use of cleaning chemicals and solutions; safety rules and regulations as related to job; and principles of providing customer service. Skill in operating industrial grade cleaning equipment and small hand tools. Demonstrated ability to: follow oral instructions; communicate orally and in writing; perform a variety of cleaning tasks; tolerate contact with a variety of cleaning products and solutions; lift heavy objects; stand for extended periods of time; use hand tools such as hammer and screwdriver to make small repairs to furniture and building; and perform physical and manual labor. Must have a valid Driver’s License.
Preferred Qualifications
High School diploma or equivalent
Custodial training and knowledge of cleaningchemicals.
