The college offers comprehensive instruction to more than 3,000 students in occupational-technical areas, college transfer programs, continuing education, developmental education, general education and specialized regional and community service areas
Instrumental to the overall culture of the college and the surrounding community is a long-standing tradition that places great value on the arts. At the college’s founding, visionary leaders at VHCC established institutional and academic priorities that have kept the college positioned to serve students who are passionate about musical, theatrical, and visual arts, including the Keyser-Aday Theater on campus. VHCC students, faculty, staff, and other stakeholders thrive in the heart of a culture that celebrates artistic endeavors illustrated by the following examples: Barter Theatre (the State Theatre of Virginia), the William King Regional Arts Museum, the Virginia Highlands Festival, the Southwest Virginia Cultural Center and Marketplace, and the Arts Depot in Abingdon, VA; the Lincoln Theatre and the Wayne C. Henderson School of Appalachian Arts in Marion, VA; and, the Birthplace of Country Music Museum, the Rhythm and Roots Festival, and the Paramount Center for the Arts in Bristol, VA.
In light of these distinctive qualities, VHCC is seeking a full-time faculty member who will teach music theory and/or music appreciation courses as well as applied music courses in addition to representing the interests of the college and the students before numerous artistic communities in our service region. Intentionally, VHCC seeks to employee a full-time faculty member who will bring a diverse set of experiences and perspective to this service for students. This colleague will teach seated and virtual music courses each semester, and the remaining workload credit hours will be dedicated to supporting the VHCC Arts Array initiative and conducting various liaison activities in the best interest of maintaining, promoting, and expanding the endeavors of the college within the regional arts communities. Given the rich musical culture of VHCC’s institutional history and service area, an opportunity also exists for this colleague in coordination with the marketing team and fine arts colleagues to develop an arts-college brand.
