AmeriCorps VISTA Members make a year-long, full-time (40 hour/week) commitment to serve on a specific project at a nonprofit organization or public agency. They focus their efforts to build the organizational, administrative, and financial capacity of organizations that fight illiteracy, improve health services, foster economic development, and otherwise assist low-income communities.
Virginia Housing Alliance’s (VHA) AmeriCorps VISTA project is a statewide intermediary project with 18 Host Sites, all that either work to expand affordable housing opportunities and/or end homelessness throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia. VHA’s VISTA project aims to develop viable communities by promoting integrated approaches that provide decent housing, suitable living environments, and expansive economic opportunities for low and moderate-income persons. VHA VISTA Members become experts in the solutions to homelessness and in meeting the need for affordable housing. Required Qualifications:
Commitment to a one year service term, 40 hours per week; Must be 18 years of age and a US Citizen, National, or Legal Resident; Ability to live in service location; Looking for applicants with organizational and communication skills who are committed, passionate, and quick learners, and who take initiative and think critically.
Living Stipend - between $575-$790 biweekly depending on project location
Benefits: Living stipend ranging from $500 to $790 bi-weekly depending on the county in which the VISTA serves; 80 hours of sick leave, 80 hours vacation, 40 hours of emergency leave; A $6,495 Education Award OR a $1,800 end of service stipend after the completion of their service; Up to $500 for out-of-pocket moving expenses and a relocation allowance if traveling over 50 miles when relocating to the Host Site; Healthcare and childcare benefits; A two-day Virtual Member Orientation focused on poverty issues; Quarterly trainings focused on homeless services and affordable housing topics; Sponsorship to attend VHA Conferences and forums for networking and educational opportunities; Free VISTA professional development webinars throughout the year....and much more!
