Job Description

The Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences of the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine announces a search to fill a faculty position in neurology at the rank of Assistant/Associate/Full Professor. This position will be either tenure or clinical track based on the qualifications of the successful candidate. The successful candidate will share service, teaching and neurological emergency responsibilities with three other faculty neurologists. The position will provide the opportunity to collaborate in existing research programs with others throughout the Department, College and University.

Responsibilities:
* Service responsibilities will include the direction of the clinical neurology service (both medical and surgical), consultations in the Veterinary Teaching Hospital, participation in continuing education programs of the College and participation in faculty governance activities.
* Teaching responsibilities will include participation in didactic instruction in neurology and related disciplines, provide clinical instruction of professional students in the Veterinary Teaching Hospital and provide neurology training of interns, residents and graduate students from various disciplines.
* The neurology service has an established residency training program and the successful candidate would share responsibilities associated with resident training.
* Service responsibilities will also include participation in neurological emergency services. This responsibility will be shared with three other faculty neurologists.
* The applicant must be committed to excellent patient management, client service, and clinical teaching.
* Research responsibilities will vary based on the interest and qualification of the candidate but may include collaborative or translational research. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work within ongoing research programs and contribute to the scholarly achievements of the research team.

* SLA and FDM (high-temp) 3D printers
* MRI-compatible small animal, stereotactic headframes
* Integra intracranial pressure monitor
* Cadwell Sierra Wave EMG/NCV/BAER
* Sonocure CUSA Unit
* Nihon-Kohden Neurofax Video EEG
* Siemens Somatom 3T and small-bore Bruker 9.4T MRI (off-site)

Collaborative Research Opportunities:
The neurology faculty each have active basic science and translational research programs that are supported by grants from the National Institutes of Health, Integrated Translational Health Research Institute of Virginia, American Brain Tumor Foundation, American Kennel Club, and Focused Ultrasound Foundation and offer a variety of opportunities for collaborative discovery. Faculty research themes include the development of innovative therapeutics for brain tumors, computational neuroimaging of brain cancer and spinal cord injury, molecular mechanisms of neuropathic pain, and identification of biomarkers of and novel treatments for epilepsy.

* Salary will be competitive and commensurate with the candidate's experience and qualifications.
* 24 days per year of leave and carry over of 288 hours per year.

Required Qualifications

* DVM or equivalent foreign degree by the date of hire.
* Completion of an approved American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine ACVIM-Subspecialty of Neurology residency program, by the date of hire.
* Excellent communication skills and interpersonal interactions.
* Must be eligible for a Virginia faculty veterinary license by the date of hire.
* Occasional travel to attend professional conferences and meetings
