As the leader of Virta’s QA team, you’ll own the strategy, development and execution of a quality management system that both flexes to meet the needs of a fast-paced business and enforces compliance with required standards. You’ll be responsible for working across all product development squads to ensure high quality products are delivered to both external and internal users. As our first QA hire, you’ll be our thought leader: championing manual testing while developing test automation, developing org-wide best practices, implementing QA policies and processes, and influencing our product development methodologies. Your primary stakeholders will be the leaders of our engineering, product and customer experience teams. You’ll hire, mentor and grow other QA engineers to drive innovative high-impact quality solutions, and help level up our engineering best practices.
Responsibilities
- Strategy
- Define short term and long term strategy and roadmap for quality assurance at Virta.
- Define quality KPIs to measure and communicate success across Engineering.
- Collaborate with the Product Development leadership and their stakeholders to align on priority matrix and SLA for incoming bugs.
- Execution
- Partner with leaders across Engineering & Product Management on the timely testing and delivery of quality functionality to users.
- Collaborate with Platform leaders to design & architect test automation solutions to be part of the standardized SDLC at Virta.
- Influence and evangelize quality best practices across the Engineering organization.
- Drive test automation strategy with balancing immediate needs for manual testing.
- Raise the bar and help up-level Virta's Engineering team by leveraging high performance solutions and innovative integrations that are secure, modern, and scalable.
- People
- Nurture, build and grow a team of passionate and talented QA engineers.
- Coach and partner with individual Engineering team members on testing approaches.
- Manage third-party testing teams and tools for manual testing.
- Understand cross-functional business needs, build stakeholder alignment, and make the appropriate trade-offs while successfully executing on initiatives and achieving KPI targets..
90 Day Plan
- Within your first 90 days at Virta, we expect you will do the following:
- Partner with members of the Engineering, Product, and Customer Support teams to understand their needs and identify existing quality gaps.
- Embed in multiple scrum squads to understand day to day development operations.
- Develop an automation strategy and roadmap for Virta, including specific KPIs and targets.
- Design and implement tooling to make test automation easier for the development team.
- Recommend rituals and processes for squads to drive immediate and measurable improvements in quality while you work on long term strategy.
- Drive critical-path scalability initiative: work with broader Engineering leaders to plan and design quality systems to support more than 10x growth in the next 2 years.
- Establish strong relationships with the leaders of Engineering, Product, Customer Success, and Operations teams.
- Have a meaningful impact on team expansion,employee growth, and development by mentoring current Engineering team members and hiring new quality Engineers.
Requirements
- 7 years of experience in quality assurance with at least 4 years in software leadership.
- Significant experience partnering directly across teams including Engineering, Product and Operations.
- Prior experience on a quality engineering team with hands on experience in test automation
- Deep knowledge of quality engineering best practices, SDLC and release management cycle.
- Experience in building systems and processes for a fast paced growth-stage startups.
- Great problem solving skills and the ability to plan and drive complex projects with accurate estimations and timely execution.
- Fluent in audience-appropriate technical communications to address both Engineers and non-technical stakeholders.
- High emotional intelligence and self-awareness paired with demonstrated excellence in collaboration, relationship-building, and proactive communication.
