The Surgical Services department manages 9 OR suites and 2 Endoscopy Suites in the main hospital, along with 4 additional OR suites and 2 Endoscopy Suites at the Outpatient Surgery Center. In 2022, the department performed over 4,346 procedures, demonstrating a commitment to providing a wide range of surgical services to the community.

Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership and direction for the Surgical Services department, overseeing daily operations and ensuring efficient workflow.
- Oversee all aspects of surgical services, including pre-operative, intraoperative, and post-operative care.
- Develop and implement policies, procedures, and protocols to ensure patient safety, quality care, and adherence to regulatory standards.
- Recruit, hire, develop, and retain qualified surgical staff, including surgeons, nurses, technicians, and support personnel.
- Manage departmental budget and resources to optimize efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
- Foster a positive and collaborative work environment that promotes teamwork and professional development.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with physicians, surgeons, and other healthcare professionals.
- Collaborate with hospital administration on strategic planning and quality improvement initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with all accreditation standards (e.g., The Joint Commission).
- Analyze surgical case volume, trends, and outcomes to identify areas for improvement.
- Implement evidence-based practices and best practices in surgical services.
- Oversee inventory management and equipment maintenance within the surgical suites.
- Maintain strong communication and collaboration with other departments throughout the hospital.
- Represent the department in meetings and committees.
- Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree required.
- Valid Arizona Registered Nurse (RN) license.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications.
- Minimum five (5) years of experience managing 15 or more OR suites in a hospital setting.
- Minimum three (3) years of experience as a Director of Surgical Services or similar leadership role in a critical care hospital setting.
- Proven track record of success in improving surgical efficiency, quality, and patient satisfaction.
- Strong leadership, communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to develop and implement strategic plans.
- Ability to manage budgets and resources effectively.
- Strong understanding of regulatory compliance in a healthcare setting.
- Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Nursing Administration (MNA) or healthcare-related field.
- Experience in a Level I or II Trauma Center.
- Experience in an outpatient surgery center setting.
- Proven ability to recruit and retain top surgical talent.
- Knowledge of Lean Six Sigma or other quality improvement methodologies.
