Job Description
VISA is seeking a Lead System Architect in the Dispute Systems Architecture organization responsible for maintaining the Dispute platform technology strategy, roadmaps, architecture, and technology governance for VISA's global dispute management system known as Visa Resolve Online. Visa Resolve Online (VROL) is a web-based application that enforces the rules and workflow of disputes. VROL is a mandated service that is crucial to the Visa brand promise of providing secure and reliable payment services by ensuring that cardholders, merchants, and issuing financial institutions have a clear dispute process and enabling technology, making resolution of disputed transactions fast and easy.
The successful candidate will be comfortable navigating challenging forces in the dynamic payments space and working in a fast-paced environment while implementing strategies and processes that enable the organization to innovate and grow.
This position is based in Foster City, California.
As a VROL Lead System Architect, you will work with the guidance of Chief Systems Architects to
- Provide architectural and technical leadership across stakeholder functions
- Define VROL's short and long-term roadmaps, and help set the vision for the organization
- Collaborate with the Product Office, Development, Test Engineering groups, Operations, and software vendors to identify and define solutions for complex, global business requirements

- Apply creative thinking/approaches to determine technical solutions that further business goals and align with corporate technology strategies, keeping in mind reliability, security, flexibility, and cost
- Collaborate with internal partners to define application standards, conventions, and best practices including compliance with security requirements
- Remain current on evolving technologies and anticipate technological evolutions that could be leveraged to enhance current architectures and build durable new ones
- Oversee the evaluation and selection of third-party software packages, as well as the design of standard application configuration of these packages
- Participate in application performance testing and capacity planning
- Facilitate application proof of concepts
- Think strategically. See patterns and relationships in information and events, clarify and simplify complex information, anticipate trends and possibilities that may lead to new business opportunities, consistently think and act ahead of the curve and anticipate and effectively respond with urgency.
Qualifications
• 10 years of work experience with a Bachelor's Degree or 8 years of work experience with an
Advanced Degree (e.g. Master's / MBA or PhD) or at least 3 years of work experience with a PhD
Preferred Qualifications
• 12-15 years of experience with a Bachelor's Degree or 8-10 years of experience with an Advanced
Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD or PhD) or or 6 years of work experience with a PhD
• Proven experience managing the software architecture of highly available enterprise level multi-tier
applications and services utilizing tools and technologies including Microservices, Kubernetes,
Kafka, DB2 database and distributed NoSQL databases
• Expertise in micro services and containerization is required
• Expertise in Java or JEE is required
• Outstanding verbal, written, presentation, facilitation, and interaction skills
• Ability to provide technical leadership and consultation to resources at both peer and junior lev ls
• Ability to represent technical and business issues and solutions to multiple levels internally and
externally to support organizational plans
• Ability to deliver creative and innovative solutions to requirements and constraints for multiple
initiatives in parallel while working in a complex and fast-moving environment
• Apply creative thinking/approach to determine technical solutions that further business goals and
align with corporate technology strategies, keeping in mind security, performance, reliability,
scalability, usability, flexibility, and cost

Travel Requirements: This position requires travel 5-10% of the time.
Mental/Physical Requirements: This position will be performed in an office setting. The position will require the incumbent to sit and stand at a desk, communicate in person and by telephone, frequently operate standard office equipment, such as telephones and computers.
