Our client is a global leader in the design and manufacture of temperature sensors, compression seal fittings, and cable and harness assemblies for a broad range of industries and applications. Our client services Aerospace, Defense, Oil & Gas, Green Energy, Pharmaceuticals, and Waste Water industries.
The Materials Director is responsible for overseeing the team of 4 in the Purchasing Department (Buyer/Planners) and for the global strategy, planning, and execution of purchased components and services to ensure the timely delivery of products to our customers.
Essential Functions:
- Provides leadership for the development and implementation of domestic and global supply chain plans and programs in support of the vertical market and product business strategies.
- Leads global planning and execution of:
- Supply chain architecture and rationalization
- Material containment initiatives
- Material cost reduction programs
- Supply base quality improvement initiatives
- Supply base lead time reduction initiatives
- Initiates and participates in enterprise resource planning changes for improving supplier management, execution, and performance
- Creates supplier plans and agreements that minimizes on hand inventory while simultaneously increases inventory availability
- Advises management of issues that will impact production or add cost and drive corrective actions when necessary
- Interfaces with suppliers to ensure good communications for smooth material flow
- Leads the coordination of an annual supplier conference
- Manages inventory cycle counting programs and activities
- Interacts with engineering, purchasing, sales, and marketing in support of on time new product launches
- Supports lean manufacturing concepts and initiatives
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree, preferably in supply chain management
- 5-7 years of progressive experience in planning, purchasing, and inventory control within a lean manufacturing environment required
- Familiarity or experience with vendor managed inventory and point of use storage preferred
- Familiarity with kanban systems and inventory optimization are a plus
- Strong desire to learn and drive lean principles
- Proficient computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
