What are the responsibilities and job description for the Social Skills Teacher position at Vista Autism Services?
The Social Skills Teacher, under the supervision of the CoVE Program Supervisor, plans and delivers individualized and group social skills instruction to students within the CoVE consortium program. This position requires effective collaboration and communication with multi-disciplinary and IEP teams to address the social needs of all CoVE students.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Collaborates with the MDT, Behavior Analysts, and the Vista School Psychologist to identify student specific social skill deficit areas
- Develops and maintains a current, professional knowledge base regarding curriculum and methods to assist students in initiating and maintaining: positive social relationships, peer acceptance and overall school adjustment, and effective coping skills with the school environment (i.e., communication skills, problem solving, perspective taking skills, self-regulation skills, self-advocacy, etc.)
- Confers with SLP, OT, and BC/BA staff to determine what skill deficit is best addressed by each service provider for students in need of individualized services
- Formulates and delivers social skills content using Special Education instructional strategies and ABA techniques which result in increasing student achievement
- Writes measurable goals to address student specific social need/s
- Monitors student progress by collecting, analyzing, and reporting student-related data
- Tracks service delivery in accordance with IEP service levels
- Plans and facilitates for generalization to promote skill application in the natural school environment
- Maintains positive and collaborative relationships with all consortium districts and CoVE staff
- Completes other duties as assigned
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The following positions or frequent movements are typical of the job: sitting, walking, standing, or reaching, often for extended periods of the workday.
The position requires an individual to learn new tasks quickly and effectively. Job requirements may change frequently. The ability to understand and carry out detailed, involved, instructions is mandatory. The incumbent must be able to travel to multiple locations daily, when needed, as the CoVE program spans multiple locations. Subject to inside environmental conditions.
EXPECTED SCHEDULE
This is a full time, 40 hour per week position that follows the CoVE calendar, which includes ESY. Days and hours of the work week are agreed upon by the Vista Executive Director of Educational Programs and the Carlisle Area School District.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Valid and active Instructional I or II Special Education Certification from the Commonwealth of PA
- Experience delivering Social Skills Instruction to individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders
- High proficiency of Microsoft Office products and Internet applications
- Successful completion of all pre-employment requirements
