PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Under limited direction, this position is responsible for supervising and coordinating daily technical operations. This position is also responsible for providing skilled technical support in the laboratory.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs all assigned duties in compliance with internal SOPs and external regulations. Is responsible for bringing compliance issues to the attention of management.
Assures quality customer service to all customers.
Hires, supervises, coordinates work schedules, trains, and evaluates performance of assigned personnel. Identifies and effectively resolves personnel issues.
Supervises and participates in the production and labeling of blood components and laboratory testing.
Ensures equipment is properly maintained and maintenance is documented.
Reviews and evaluates production and quality control records (e.g. testing, component preparation, labeling, and storage).
Assures timely completion and accuracy of laboratory reports. Performs data entry and record review.
Assures adequate inventory of laboratory supplies and reagents.
Assists in reporting and resolving deviations (e.g., errors, quarantine, recall, equipment maintenance, reagent failures and accidents).
Assists in development and implementation of educational and training programs.
Maintains effective communications with hospitals.
Performs all other duties, at the discretion of management, as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge/Education
Bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical, biological, medical technology or clinical laboratory science required.
Those acting in a capacity that is regulated by state of New York (NYS) requirements, Bachelor's Degree with 6 years of pertinent clinical laboratory experience is required.
For those acting in a supervisory capacity that is regulated by state of New York (NYS) requirements then a Bachelor's Degree with 6 years of pertinent clinical laboratory experience is required.
Licenses/Certifications
Certification as a Medical Technologist by a recognized certifying agency required or CLIA equivalent for high complexity testing required.
BB or SBB preferred.
State licensure (as required by regulations).
Experience
One year of laboratory experience required.
Two years supervisory experience preferred.
Skills/Abilities
Ability to promote a work team environment and participate as an active team member.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
Good supervisory skills with the ability to effectively utilize and develop personnel to execute job tasks.
Ability to analyze situations and take appropriate action which may be under strict deadlines.
Capable of handling responsibility for timely volume of component production.
Ability to conceptualize computer software applications and computer equipment automation.
