What are the responsibilities and job description for the Computational Biologist - Contractor / Part Time position at Vitra Labs Inc.?
Vitra Labs is a venture-backed cell therapy company whose goal is to create oocytes from patient-derived stem cells for use in IVF. We use computational tools in combination with a cell signaling platform to recapitulate the normal developmental trajectory of nascent oocytes, without the need for donor ovarian tissue. Our mission is to curb the rise in infertility by making IVF accessible to everyone.
Description:
In this role, you will be an integral part of the computational and data engineering group, architecting predictive modeling capabilities for a next-generation computational engine. You will lead the development and implementation of machine learning methods and pipelines to characterize developmental stages and extract targets from single cell NGS, multiomics, and high-content imaging data.
Responsibilities:
- Apply data engineering principles to large single cell datasets from NGS and high throughput assays
- Develop machine learning algorithms, models, and computational workflows using large multiomic datasets from various sources following best practices in software development and code documentation.
- Integrate and harmonize external and internal datasets from diverse developmental timepoints and sample types to improve computational predictions.
- Onboard techniques for cellular AI/ machine-vision based classification.
- Collaborate with experimental biologists and engineers to validate target predictions and design experiments.
- Contribute to building a positive company culture.
Qualifications:
- PhD in computational biology, bioinformatics, computer science, or a related field.
- Hands-on experience developing algorithms and applying machine learning to single cell NGS data to solve biological problems.
- Proficiency in Python and/or R and strong computational fundamentals.
