Per Diem Nsg-ICU-Medicine 2G 110 Irving Street NW Nursing - Direct Patient Care Day / Night Shift with rotating weekend 0.00 * Job Summary * Under direct instruction and/or supervision of the Clinical Nurse, this position functions as an assistant in the provision of patient care activities utilizing basic concepts taught in nursing school. * Minimum Qualifications * Education/Training * Current enrollment in a Bachelors of Science in Nursing program and in good standing. Completed their junior year of nursing school with at least one semester of medical-surgical training. Current Basic Life Support certification. * * Experience * None * * On The Job Experience * None * * License/Certification/Registration * Healthcare Provider CPR certification isrequired. * * Knowledge, Skills & Abilities * PROBLEM SOLVING: Job requires a moderate level of problem solving. However, the problems are usually not very complex. Standard methods, guides, and procedures are generally available. * INTERNAL CONTACTS: Internal contacts necessary to effectively explain and interpret information for others inside the Hospital. * INDEPENDENT JUDGEMENT: Work generally has standard procedures and instructions but may require deviation from established methods to achieve results. * Primary Duties and Responsibilities * Assists with monitoring patient medical condition. Reports changes in patient's condition to appropriate staff. Communicates relevant patient concerns and unit issues to Clinical Nurse. Interfaces with staff, physicians and family members regarding patient status. * Performs intentional rounding to promote patient comfort and safety. * Participates in quality improvement activities, such as hand hygiene audits and pressure ulcer prevalence days. * Assists patient with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) such as dressing, cleaning, feeding, positioning and movement. * Observes and assists patients requiring isolation and continuous observation or one-to-one nursing attention. * Reports and records information such as vital signs (VS), condition of IV sites, and indwelling drainage systems (such as chest tubes, wound drains and nasogastric tubes). * Documents bedside care, treatments given, and observations made in electronic medical record. Completes Intake and Output (I & O) data and other pertinent patient records. * Assists with the admission, transport, transfer and discharge of patients and maintains records as necessary. * Under the direction of a licensed caregiver, changes sterile/non-sterile dressings, performs oral-nasopharyngeal suctioning, administers tube feedings and gives enemas, irrigations and sitz baths. Applies binders, ice packs and soaks. Assists in post-mortem care. * Assists the nursing staff/physician with pre-procedural/pre-operative preparations and/or examinations/procedures, as directed. * Utilizes equipment in the appropriate manner. Reports equipment in need of repair. * Cleans/disinfects various clinical equipment, supply, patient and utility rooms. * Monitors, receives and stocks equipment and supplies. Obtains emergency equipment and supplies as necessary. * Collects urine and stool specimens. May deliver specimens, transport patients and complete other errands necessary for patient care. * Answers telephone as needed. Directs visitors. * Utilizes effective communication and service recovery techniques when completing patient care activities to promote patient satisfaction and outcomes. * Initiates and assists in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
