What are the responsibilities and job description for the Histology Specialist position at Vizgen?
Position Summary:
Reporting to Vizgen’s Histology Lead, and working closely with R&D and Lab Service team, the Histology Specialist will work to develop solutions for preparing specimens for spatial genomics measurement, and section and prepare specimens for the R&D team and other teams as necessary. The successful candidates will have demonstrable background in related fields and the enthusiasm to work as a member of a multi-disciplinary team in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial, start-up environment.
Responsibilities:
- Embed and section biological specimens, and maintain the in-house frozen and FFPE specimen inventory
- Develop protocols for preparing and handling biospecimens for spatial genomics measurement
- Perform and optimize immunostaining protocols for sample preparation and imaging for histological analysis
- Work to validate new procedures and products for histological analysis
- Develop customer solutions, documentation, and process for handling different tissue samples.
- Ensure reagents, consumable, and instruments are in good order and operational and carefully document procedures and help maintain good laboratory practices
- Follow all safety precautions for chemicals and reagents while working in the lab and complying with OSHA and BSL2 safety standards
Qualifications:
- 4 year wet lab experience in performing general histology techniques (cryosectioning, embedding, FFPE sectioning, routine IHC staining, fixation) required
- Bachelor or Master degree in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Biomedical Engineering or related biological sciences preferred
- Hands-on experience with in-situ molecular biology protocols (immunohistochemistry or FISH) and fluorescent microscopy imaging is a plus
- A high level of commitment and a track record of quality work, with attention to detail.
- Capable of communicating the work clearly among the team
