VLK Architects is seeking an Architecture Director for our Austin office due to the high growth and expansion we are experiencing. This position will work with firm leadership in identifying, establishing and implementing overall strategies for the Architecture unit within a specific office. They will manage resources, motivate and mentor staff, and assemble task groups as needed to study, implement and execute various standards and procedures.
RESPONSIBILITIES- Lead Architectural staff in our Central Texas offices in the execution of projects, including staff development, mentoring and providing continuous feedback.
- Work with firm Principals to determine schedules and staffing for projects, making certain the most qualified teams and resources are being utilized to meet Client’s needs and expectations.
- Determine staffing needs based on future workload.
- Hire and train new staff through recruiting efforts, interview and selection process, and onboarding process.
- Implement and oversee standards and procedures to ensure VLK best practices are utilized on all projects and to assess where new procedures or standards are needed.
- Miscellaneous administrative tasks such as reviewing/approving staff timesheets/expense reports, ensuring employees have available resources, etc.
REQUIREMENTS
Academic/Professional:
- Professional degree in Architecture from a NAAB accredited University required
- Registered Architect
- LEED AP preferred
Competencies:
- Documented experience leading and mentoring an architectural staff
- Experience preparing and meeting project schedules
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, both verbal and written
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Must work well in a team environment, fostering collaboration
- Knowledge of relevant industry software, including Revit, AutoCAD, Adobe products, MS Office, Smartsheet, and Newforma

Physical Requirements:
- While performing this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear
- The employee frequently is required to sit or stand for long periods of time; walk; use; hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms
- The employee will need to be able to occasionally climb ladders to review existing conditions at a job site and occasionally lift up to 25 lbs
Experience:
- Minimum of 7 years of professional experience in the Architecture field on commercial projects
- Experience managing, leading, and mentoring project groups from all disciplines such as Architectural, Interior Design, Construction Administration
- Experience in K-12, Higher Ed, Commercial, and Automotive market sectors is preferred
