What are the responsibilities and job description for the Technical Manager position at VMware?

Duties: Responsible for design of NSX Advanced Load Balancer modules. Deliver the next generation API Server, a distributed system, for improved performance and scalability. Leverage Django, REST, Golang, and Postgres Database. Drive architecture and direction for product with regards to scale and extensibility. Design and write up Functional Specifications. Responsible for holding Design reviews with broader Engineering, Product Management/Marketing and Sales teams. Engage with customers, upper management and PM teams for influencing architecture and design of the product. Work with User Interface and PM teams for driving usability criteria. Bootstrap foundational code for the module and drive code organization for better readability and maintainability. Perform code reviews and mentor members of the team varying from guiding junior engineers to develop coding prowess to design suggestions to senior engineers. Drive Unit Test and Functional Test specifications to ensure clean code delivery. Attend trade shows and conferences for visibility in the tech space and influence product priorities.

Requirements: Master’s degree (U.S. or foreign equivalent) in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Information Technology or a related technical/quantitative field and three (3) years of experience in job offered or related position. In the alternative, employer will accept Bachelor’s degree (U.S. or foreign equivalent) in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Information Technology or a related technical/quantitative field and five (5) years of experience in job offered or related position.

Employer requires at least six (6) of the following skills gained through industry experience:

  • Networking protocols TCP/IP;
  • Datapath and L4/L7 services;
  • Distributed Systems;
  • Programming Languages – C/C , Python, and Golang;
  • Network Security and Application Availability solutions;
  • Optimized algorithms;
  • Utilizing highly scalable and concurrent systems.

Telecommuting permitted: work may be performed within normal commuting distance from the VMware office in Palo Alto, CA. Multiple Openings.
