Job Description
Vuori is looking for an Assistant Controller to help lead the accounting team. The Assistant Controller will work closely with the Vice President, Accounting to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial information, manage day-to-day financial operations, establish policies and procedures, and lead the accounting team responsible for managing the accounting close process.
The ideal candidate will have a thorough understanding of and ability to apply US GAAP, a strong knowledge of the critical business processes of a multi-channel apparel brand and functions of an accounting department with a desire to lead and develop a team. The role requires a detail-oriented team player, a strong sense of ownership over responsibilities, and a desire to build in a dynamic fast-growing organization.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Oversee day-to-day accounting functions, including accounting operations, general accounting, international accounting, fixed assets, and lease accounting.
- Direct and oversee monthly close process comprising of the performance and review of journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations while maintaining proper supporting documentation.
- Assist in the preparation and review of the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial consolidation and financial statements.
- Develop, train, and oversee the work, performance, and career development of general accountants.
- Help establish, document, and maintain accounting policies and financial controls.
- Research and apply technical accounting standards, ensuring compliance with US GAAP.
- Able to produce a variety of reports and/or analysis on an ad-hoc basis in response to management inquiries.
- Collaborate with finance and other cross-functional teams to address financial challenges and opportunities.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent degree from an accredited university in accounting or finance.
- Certified Public Accountant preferred.
- Minimum of 8 years experience in progressive accounting roles with at least 3 years experience leading a team. Mix of both public and private accounting experience preferred.
- Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to effectively multitask to meet deadlines.
- Thorough understanding of US GAAP.
- Excellent communication (both written and verbal) and interpersonal skills required due to the need to work cross functionally in a fast-growing company. Ability to effectively convey accounting concepts to non-accounting business partners.
- Strong analytical skills and problem-solving skills – Advanced analysis and excel skills, and familiarity using and extracting data from various systems.
- Flexible team player with a continuous improvement mindset that enjoys hands on responsibilities, with an ability to be proactive and a self-starter. Ability to work independently and effectively research and solve problems.
- Ability and desire to build and thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Apparel industry or retail/wholesale experience a plus.
- Experience with ERP implementations, Microsoft d365 or Shopify a plus
