We have a need for a full-time experienced BAS Operator in the Washington, DC area, with experience in a Research and Healthcare environment. All tools are provided.

The Building Automation System Technician I has the responsibility for the programming, operation, and maintenance of hardware and software which monitor and control building systems, ensure operational performance, and effect building occupants' comfort and safety

DUTIES
- Observes facility electrical loads; activates or deactivates heating, ventilating, air conditioning and lighting systems and equipment in accordance with energy management procedures; tests integrity of communications between the computer and facility; and calls up data as needed.
- Installs, troubleshoots, maintains, upgrades, and repairs digital and pneumatic BAS systems.
- Troubleshoots local controllers, communication wiring, programs, and schedules to identify concerns and determine corrective action.
- Maintains BAS databases
- Performs or assists HVAC technicians and Energy and Utility Services Coordinator in troubleshooting vital comfort, energy, indoor air quality, safety and scheduling concerns related to HVAC systems and controls.
- Assists with coordinating contractors during the inspection, installation, repair, and replacement of various components or systems, technical matters, and other related issues.
- Troubleshoots and remedies BAS performance failures by both reacting to alarm reports and proactively identifying failures through trend analysis.
- Responds in a timely manner to facility emergencies, including those occurring after normal business hours and at multiple facilities.
- Ensures quality control of system projects.
- Conducts quality control checks of near-complete and completed projects to ensure proper system operation by: (1) performing on-site review of the programs installed following completion of normal start-up and check-out procedures, (2) visiting the job site periodically to ensure occupant satisfaction, (3) observing system operation during seasonal changes, and (4) communicating with building occupants regarding concerns and suggesting corrective action.
- Completes own and/or participates in coordinated audits to determine energy management actions required, monitors energy management programs in effect in all buildings, analyzes and documents the effects of system and

UALIFICATIONS
- Knowledge of BAS components and HVAC control devices, parts, and panels sufficient for troubleshooting and making standard repairs.
- Knowledge of commercial HVAC systems.
- Ability to program, trouble-shoot, and maintain the BAS computers.
- Skill in using instruments/procedures to test and evaluate energy management computer systems as they relate to HVAC and communication systems.
- Organizational and communication skills which highlight the ability to maintain basic BAS data and produce reports, compose letters, memos and emails, and training materials when providing basic technical assistance.
- Demonstrated ability to organize and manage installation and repair projects.
- Ability to analyze and document the effects of systems and operational changes on utility consumption.
- Ability to carry out established energy conservation practices and procedures.
- Ability to effectively interface with employees, contractors, utility company representatives, and others.
- Knowledge and use of culturally responsive practices.
- Ability to work varied shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.
- Regular and predictable attendance.
Minimum Education
High school diploma/ GED (Required)
Specific Requirements and Preferences
- Coursework or training in commercial heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems and controls and computer programming as it relates to energy management systems.
- Experience in the use of electronics, combustion, and HVAC systems testing equipment.
Minimum Work Experience
Working knowledge of all applicable EPA & OSHA standards related to all the positions (Preferred)
Required Licenses and Certifications
Valid driver’s license to operate motor vehicles (Required)
Physical, Environment, and Sensory Requirements
Must be able to lift up to 50lbs, squat, bend, stoop and kneel for short periods, climb ladder, stand for long periods of time, and constant arm extensions
Occasional exposure to elements such as heat, cold, noise, dust, dirt, chemicals, but none to the point of being disagreeable. May involve minor safety hazards where likely results would be cuts, bruises, etc.
