Learn more at gore.com/products/industries About the Role: We are looking for a Materials Durability Scientist to join our Fabrics team. In this role, you will be focused on understanding the impact of raw materials, processes, and other external factors on durability of final product performance and manage global projects. As the subject matter expert in product durability, you will partner with cross-functional internal customers to leverage and advance existing knowledge. This position offers the option to work on-site at our facility in Elkton, Maryland, with flexible work from home options available. This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement, meaning you could work remote part of the time, depending upon the responsibilities of the role and business needs* Responsibilities: - Identify relevant in-use product failure mechanisms and associated root cause(s) - Leverage existing tests and modify/develop test methods to mimic or accelerate product changes over time - Develop fundamental understanding of the impact of materials, processing, and product use on product performance - Work globally with cross-functional teams to support new innovations, commercialization of new technologies, as well as exiting commercial products - Articulate complex technical information concisely to cross-functional audiences - Educate Gore Associates, customers, consumers, and industry organizations regarding product durability test methods and metrics - Partner with the team and leader to identify gaps and develop strategies and tactics to address the gaps

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications: - Bachelor’s Degree in materials science and engineering, polymer science and engineering, mechanical engineering, biomechanical engineering, or another related field - Hands-on experience with mechanical testing and method development - Demonstrated experience in forensics/failure mode analysis - Strong knowledge of material and composite property testing and characterization, with an emphasis on mechanical behavior (material deformation, fracture, and fatigue) - Demonstrated skill in rapidly assessing complex technical challenges, applying creative problem-solving skills, and building an effective course of action - Ability to translate complex ideas into understandable concepts for technically diverse audiences - Ability to identify knowledge gaps and opportunities to advance understanding/capabilities (in alignment with business needs and priorities) and gain support to drive efforts - Ability to own, drive and manage complex projects to completion - Ability to travel up to 10% Desired Qualifications: - Experience with flexible composites, polymers and/or adhesives - Experience in lamination or textile industry - Mechanistic understanding of polymer degradation *Remote Working Arrangements are permitted for Associates in the continental United States (US) and Canada, with appropriate approval and compliance with Gore’s remote working policies, from the country in which they are employed. Locations not eligible for new remote work arrangements include: Alaska and Hawaii (for all roles), and Rhode Island (for wage/hourly roles only).
