Grace is seeking an Environmental Specialist to join our Environmental Remediation team! This role reports to the Remediation Program Manager located at our Columbia, MD headquarters (hybrid option).
You will be responsible for management of the remediation of a portfolio of environmentally impaired sites. Such management will involve interaction with regulators, legal counsel, technical consultants, and the public to develop and implement cost effective, risk-based remediation plans for environmentally impaired sites. You be responsible for the aggregation and internal reporting for Grace's remediation operations sites currently in long-term O&M. The geographical scope is within the continental U.S.
- Closely partner and interact with multi-functional teams that may include representatives from governmental agencies (e.g., U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, or State equivalent), Grace legal counsel, outside legal counsel, environmental consultants and contractors, and Grace Remediation management.
- Primary point of contact with governmental agencies related to the assigned sites.
- Oversee ongoing operations and the overall (closure/exit) strategy for assigned sites.
- Estimate life-cycle costs for and maintain financial forecasts for all Grace remediation sites consistent with Grace's internal policies related to environmental/contingent liabilities.
- Manage sites consistent with the Grace remediation process and with Grace Supply Chain processes to procure consultants and contractors.
- Manage project contractual requirements, including review of payment requests, changes in scope and requests for information.
- Provide technical oversight including review of site documentation such as access agreements, work plans, periodic mandatory reports to regulators, and site closure reports.
- Identify and readily communicate key issues that may arise openly and candidly to internal resources.
- Project safety and environmental compliance: emphasize Grace's focus on safety and compliance through all aspects of projects; compile necessary statistics for the projects and participate in investigations and preventative/corrective actions associated with incidents and near miss events.
- Travel to various sites during performance of significant tasks such as investigation or remediation activities and to attend Site related meetings, as necessary.
- Technical qualifications in environmental science, remediation, environmental engineering, soil science, groundwater monitoring or a related discipline
- 2 years of experience on contaminated site clean-up or projects with a focus in environmental remediation
- Knowledge of federal laws and regulatory requirements governing environmental remediation (CERCLA, RCRA).
- Knowledge of project management and basic financial accounting principles.
- Effective oral and written communication skills; ability to effectively present complex topics in a concise manner.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interface and communicate with cross-functional teams at all levels, from laborer to executives, and with external stakeholders such as regulators and the public.
- Demonstrated ability to understand and interpret large quantities of scientific data in the context of developing or developed site conceptual models.
- BS Degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Geology or related field
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SAP and SharePoint, or equivalent.
