To qualify for Data Scientist, you must meet the basic requirement and the specialized experience, as described below:
Basic Requirements for Data Science Series:
Applicants must have a bachelor's (or higher) degree in mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science, or a field directly related to the position. The degree must be in a major field of study (at least at the baccalaureate level) that is appropriate for the position.

Have a combination of education and experience which includes courses equivalent to a major field of study (30 semester hours) as shown above, plus additional education or appropriate experience.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, you must also meet the specialized experience listed below:
One year of specialized experience that is equivalent to the GS-13 grade level, in Federal service, which includes:
(1) participating in the planning, design, development, and implementation of data science techniques and methods;
(2) applying data science tools and techniques to complete varied and sophisticated analytical projects, including the creation and maintenance of data pipelines, data warehouses, databases, and other data storage and transformation systems;
(3) applying advanced operations research and data science techniques for quantitative analysis, statistical analysis, forecasting, predictive modeling, prescriptive analysis, and optimization; and
(4) identifying, creating, and employing statistical, algorithmic, mining, forecasting, predictive, and visualization techniques.
Applicants must meet time-in-grade (52 weeks at the GS-13 grade level), time-after-competitive-appointment (90 days, if applicable), and qualifications requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement, (09/06/2023), to be eligible for consideration.
Responsibilities:
As a Data Scientist, you will perform the following duties which are not all-inclusive:- Plans, initiates, and directs state-of-the-art data science applications, models, technologies, and guiding principles for data use and analysis in direct support of the Wage and Hour Division's mission and programs.
- Serves as a team lead for designing, implementing, and evaluating large, complex analytical applications, projects, and studies, applying a combination of computational and machine learning methods to new or Big Data using next-generation analytical tools.
- Serves as an advisor to senior scientific, technical, and/or program officials and staff on issues relating to research and resources in data science.
- Analyzes management information requirements to develop program or administrative reporting systems including the system's specifications, data gathering, analytical techniques, and systems evaluation methodology.
- Combines, analyzes, and interprets large and/or complex data sets to develop data-driven organizational solutions and conducts data extraction by using computer programing without preset specifications.
- Develops new user interfaces and adapts tools for displaying scientific information in specialized databases.
- Develops, adapts, and integrates data mining capacities using enhanced algorithms as well as structured databases to achieve the insight and perform predictive analytics on data.
- Collaborates with computer scientists and engineers, IT specialists, and researchers from multiple disciplines, overseeing the aggregation of software, hardware, other technologies, and human expertise required to integrate resources and provide a useful, usable, and enabling framework for programs.
- Conducts research and statistical analysis on available data and presents findings in the most relevant format, including text, graphs, charts, tables, and models.
- Leads a team that provides state-of-the-art research in the development, modification, and utilization of applications; data analysis and interpretation; database design and development; and troubleshooting and guiding the effective use of applications, data management and
visualization tools, and emerging technologies in support of agency programs.
