What are the responsibilities and job description for the Credential Medical Assistant , Integrative Medicine, Winston Salem position at Wake Forest?

Experienced CMA for a unique opportunity in a specialty clinic that offers alternative and holistic medicine. The CMA will be partnered with a provider to assist in delivering the best care to our patients. Position is heavily administrative including managing medication refills, lab results, patient messages, appointments, vital signs and updating the patient chart. The Integrative Medicine Clinic offers services such as acupuncture, nutrition based treatments, supplements, massage therapy, physical therapy, psychology and consults. Attention to detail, empathy, great interpersonal skills, teamwork, efficiency and having a positive attitude are desired.

 

Job Summary:

The CMA, under direct supervision of the Medical Physician, assists in the appropriate elements of administrative and clinical responsibilities within the scope of the Certified Medical Assistant's training.

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum of a High School Diploma (or equivalent) plus graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program.  
  • Associate Degree in Medical Assisting preferred.  
  • In addition, must have obtained certification (testing) as noted below.

Certifications Required:

Current Medical Assistant certification from one of the following is required: 

  • CMA from American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)
  • CCMA from National Health career Association (NHA)
  • NCMA from National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)
  • RMA from American Medical Technologists (AMT).   
  • NCMSMA from National Healthcare Worker’s Association (NHCWA)
  • NRCMA from National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP)
  • NRMA from National Registry of Medical Assistants (NRMA)

Must have American Heart Association BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support), required.

PEARS (Pediatric Emergency Assessment) may be required within one year in select areas.

Essential Functions

  1. Complies with the Medical Center mission, vision, and values as well as the philosophy of the Department of Nursing and Service line standards in caring for patients.
  2. Performs various clerical duties such as answering the phone, data entry, transcription, charge entry, and processing insurance forms. Maintains office supplies, facilities, and equipment.
  3. Schedules new, return, and procedure appointments applicable to the specific clinic setting. May also include scheduling hospital admissions and/or surgery cases.
  4. Assists medical staff with preparation, examination, and procedure to include performing patient history interview/screening to obtain personal data and chief complaint, documentation for records, and vital signs. Performs telephone and in-person screenings.
  5. Sets up, cleans, restocks, and prepares examination rooms. Prepares equipment, autoclave, sterilizer, and maintain treatment areas.
  6. Collects and processes specimens for diagnostic testing according to policy.
  7. Performs screening tests such as EKGs, hearing tests, vision tests and pulmonary testing (peak flow and pulse oximetry).
  8. Prepares and administers oral and parenteral medications and vaccines as directed by the physician. May call or e-prescribe prescriptions as directed. Maintains medication and immunization records.
  9. Complies with Medical Center Infection Prevention policies to manage infectious materials using aseptic techniques, sanitization, chemical disinfection, surgical asepsis, and correct handling of biohazardous materials.
  10. Documents all patient care delivered in the medical record according to medical center policy.
  11. Performs and maintains competency for point of care testing as assigned, ensuring compliance with WFBH Point of Care policies and with applicable state and federal regulations.
  12. Performs other related duties incidental to work described herein.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills

Physical Requirements
Work consistently requires walking, standing, sitting, lifting, reaching, bending, stooping, pushing, and pulling. Must be able to lift and support the weight of 35 lbs in handling patients, medical equipment, and supplies. Possible exposure to communicable diseases. Must speak, read, and write Basic English fluently. Intact senses of sight, hearing, smell, and touch. Manual finger dexterity.
