What are the responsibilities and job description for the Executive Director, Rare Disease Nonprofit position at Wake Up Narcolepsy Inc.?

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director willhave overall strategic leadership and operational responsibilityfor Wake Up Narcolepsy. The Executive Director is responsible foroverseeing the administration, programs and strategic plan for WakeUp Narcolepsy.  Other key duties include fundraising,expansion, marketing, grant disbursement and communityoutreach.

Board Governance: Works with board in order tofulfill the organization mission.

Financial Performance and Viability: Developsresources sufficient to ensure the financial health of theorganization.

Compliance: Ensures all internal controls aremet.

Organization Mission andStrategy:  Works with board and staff to ensurethat the mission is fulfilled through programs, strategic planningand community outreach.

Technology:  Help Wake UpNarcolepsy select and adopt technology solutions that maximizeproductivity and streamline processes. 

Organization Operations:  Overseesand implements appropriate resources to ensure that the operationsof the organization are appropriate.

Actual Job Responsibilities

  • Report to and work closely with the Board of Directors to seektheir involvement in policy decisions, fundraising and to increasethe overall visibility of the organization.
  • Supervise, collaborate with organization staff.
  • Strategic planning and implementation.
  • Planning and operation of annual budget.
  • Serve as Wake Up Narcolepsy’s primary spokesperson to theorganization’s constituents, the media and the general public.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with various organizationsand utilize those relationships to strategically enhance Wake UpNarcolepsy’s Mission.
  • Engage in fundraising and developing other revenues.
  • Review research grant applications from investigators and makerecommendations for disbursement.
  • Oversee marketing and other communications efforts.
  • Oversee organization Board and committee meetings.
  • Establishing employment and administrative policies andprocedures for all functions and for the day-to-day operation ofthe nonprofit.
  • Review and approve contracts for services.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Board of Directors.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in business, advanced degree preferred
  • Transparent and high integrity leadership
  • Firsthand experience with a disability, ideally sleep disorder,desirable
  • Five or more years senior nonprofit management experience.
  • Experience and skill in working with a Board of Directors.
  • High level strategic thinking and planning. Ability to envisionand convey the organization’s strategic future to the staff, board,volunteers and donors.
  • Ability to effectively communicate the organization’s missionto donors, volunteers and the overall community.
  • Demonstrated ability to oversee and collaborate withstaff.
  • A history of successfully generating new revenue streams andimproving financial results.
  • Active fundraising experience. Excellent donor relations skillsand understanding of the funding community. Highly skilled at usingCRMs.
  • Previous success in establishing relationships with individualsand organizations of influence including funders, donors,partner agencies and volunteers.
  • Solid organizational abilities, including planning, delegating,program development and task facilitation.
  • Strong financial management skills, including budgetpreparation, analysis, decision making and reporting.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong public speaking ability.
  • Strong work ethic with a high degree of energy.

Work Environment:

This is a full time remote position. 10-20% of time may beallocated for travel.
