The Writing Center Coordinator will be responsible for the oversight of the writing centers on both campuses; managing and coordinating all writing center activities and day-to-day operations; conducting training sessions and workshops for students and faculty; maintaining the program’s website and social media accounts; designing and creating instructional videos related to writing support; providing one-on-one tutoring of writing center clients; and directly supervising WCC tutors.

SALARY: Appropriate placement on Salary Schedule C3 (range: $46,691 - $94,863).
ANTICIPATED START DATE: JULY 1, 2023
The position will be based initially at the Wallace Campus in Dothan.
More than one position in the same job classification may be filled from the applicants for this position should another vacancy occur during the search process.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTION: Administration and Management. Manage and coordinate writing center activities. Ensures that all functions are carried out in a professional, well-organized and accurate manner.
Supervise daily functions and work conducted through the writing center.- Maintain a current awareness of best practices in writing center pedagogy and theory, and introduce these ideas into the writing center.
- Manage all writing center activities.
- Develop knowledge of WC Online tracking system.
- Oversee scheduling of writing lab sessions.
- Oversee WC online reservation system.
- Orient and train new employees.
- Assign work schedules for writing center tutors.
- Provide for appropriate training opportunities for subordinate employees.
- Consider and process requests for leave for employees.
- Approve leave and evaluate attendance for employees.
- Evaluate performance of subordinate employees in accordance with the College Performance Plan.
- Collaborate with English faculty in overseeing writing lab sessions.

Conduct training sessions and workshops with students and faculty.
- Professionally greets writing center clients.
- Visit classrooms and market the writing center’s services to faculty and student population.
- Communicate with faculty to obtain any necessary course materials.
- Maintain regular and accurate records of tutoring sessions using the WC Online reservation system.
- Assist faculty with classes visiting the computer lab.

Network with appropriate college groups and departments.
- Promote Writing Center services among faculty and students through class visits and/or presentations, workshops, website, social media, and other publicity.

Conduct outreach to faculty.
- Cultivate relationships with community members.
- Serve as a resource person and provide advisory services within assigned subject matter areas and contributes to welfare of community through participation in areas of interest.
- Plan, conduct, or participate in special events related to areas of expertise.
- Pursue personal professional improvement; participate in programs, workshops, and classes to maintain competencies.

Perform other duties as required.
- Reports to work on time, at appropriate workstation or department during all departmental/position scheduled work days and during all departmental/position scheduled work hours.

- Bachelor’s degree in English or related discipline from an accredited college or university is required
OR
Master’s degree in English, Composition/Rhetoric Studies, or Education from an accredited college or university is required. - One academic year experience teaching English courses in a secondary or post-secondary setting or one year of professional tutoring experience in writing is required.
- Ability to work non-standard hours and extended hours as necessary is required.
- Ability to travel between campuses as needed is required.
- Experience designing and teaching post-secondary composition courses is preferred.
- Experience coordinating or managing a community college or university writing center, including training and supervising of tutors is preferred.

Experience with web design, audio and visual recording, social media publicity management, and data analysis is preferred.
